funny brake noise

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

so when putting on the brakes from speeds 80-90mph i hear this noise, almost like some one is turning steel on a lathe and continues until i stop. I recently put on some full ceramics from NAPA, and new rotors.

Did you bed the brakes properly?

Pull the calipers, see if there's any part of them rubbing on the rotor.

Then again, it could be just the way those pads work. I don't know, I can't afford those fancy ceramic pads.

any other driving it dosen't do it just at higher speeds with sudden braking. stop and go driving has no problem

how long have you had them on there? i used to work for napa and this happened to a few customers but it went away after about a week...if it doesnt stop then bring them in and warranty them out. also which line of ceramic pads did you get? and what rotors did you get? the cheaper line of napa rotors are junk if you do any "spirited" driving, i've (along with some other people) had them warp the first time the brakes are hit hard. i doubt that would be causing the noise but its just a head up.

I had them for a few months now. I don't remember what pads I got, I paid like $50 for them. They said they had Chinese rotors, and they had Japenese rotors. I bought the Jap rotors they were the higher end ones. It dosen't feel like they are warped

My ebc's do that also. I looked everything over twice and checked the run out on them twice. I just assume my brakes are to small for my car. to much heat build-up makes them sound funny. I should have just stuck with what worked, cheap pads on cheap rotors.

napa sells chinese and canadian, not japanese...if its been a few months have you checked your pads? see if they just wore down and the pad wear sensor (basically a bent piece of metal designed to scrape the rotor when the meat on the pad is low to let you know its time for new ones) is scraping...if you spent $50 then they were the cheaper ceramics which is actually a ceramic and metallic blend.
