1974 Continental Mark IV - The Mark IV's styling was virtually unchanged for 1974. However, new sound insulation and thicker carpeting helped give a quieter ride. In addition to most of the standard features offered in Contenintals, the Mark IV came equipped with Sure-Track power brake system; carpeted spare tire cover; rear bumper guard; luxury steering wheel; front and rear rub strips; vinyl roof; Six-Way Twin Comfort power seat and engine compartment light. I.D. DATA: Lincoln's 11 symbol Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped on a metal tab fastened to the instrument panel, visible through the windshield. The first digit is a model year code (`4' 1974). The second letter indicates assembly plant:`Y' Wixom, Michigan. Digits three and four are the body serial code, which corresponds to the model numbers: `81' Continental 2-door HT coupe; `82' Continental 4-door HT sedan; `89' Mark IV 2-door HT coupe. The fifth symbol is an engine code: `A' V8-460 4Bbl. Finally, digits six-eleven make up the consecutive unit number, starting with 800001. A Vehicle Certification Label on the left front door lock face panel or door pillar shows the manufacturer, month and year of manufacture, GVW, GAWR, certification statement, VIN, body code, color code, trim code, axle code, transmission code, and domestic (or foreign) special order code.
