Road noise in AM radio?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I don't know if it has always been like this, but its getting annoying. I listen to ESPN radio 1000 on my way to work and its really fuzzy until I get out of my po-dunk neighborhood in BFE. Then it goes to slightly fuzzy. Now I first thought it was because of where I was at geographically. When I turn the car off and just sit there its crystal clear no matter where I am. Also, when I accelerate it gets immensely clearer, and fuzzy again when my foot comes off. I have everything turned off (A/C). Anyone else have this issue? Or is this something everyone deals with?

Thanks guys.

Best guess would be the alternator. Second best, fuel pump. Also check the grounds back at the battery and under the hood.

i would think it would have to do more with electrical stuff rather than mechanical IMO

Last time I checked, those were all electrical items.

a lot of times, noises from the radio are signs that somthing is going bad with the motor. a couple of years ago, I worked with a kid that had a SVT focus(he thought it was the fastest thing ever) i dont know what he was doing but every 3 or 4 months he would burn up his ignition system, and about a week or so before the failure he would start getting a very fast clicking sound comming from the speakers like it would click every time a cylinder would fire, needless to say it was very bad at idle, but it was unbearable while driving.

check the connections at the ant in the rear window make sure that there is no corrosion or the connector is not loose( if the connector was loose it SHOULD affect FM as well) if the fm is working fine, you may want to think about upgrading to XM Sirius Radio. they offer ESPN Radio with a lot better sound quality, it may be easier than trying to track down the noise problem.

The solution? Keep accelerating!
