does the 2 gen have 2.5 exhaust? getting ready to order my D/D magnaflow...

Posted by: owlman

it's 2.25

Posted by: pektel

correct. But if you've already ordered it, Any exhaust shop can make a 2.5 D/D work.

The exhaust on both GENS gets down to 1 7/8" at the mufflers. Im not sure where the 2.25" keeps coming from. I did the exhaust on my GEN 1 and GEN 2 myself and know its not 2.25"

Posted by: pektel

Well I've never seen it, just going by what others have said. I believe you though. When I was under the gen 1, the pipe from the resonators back was smaller than between the cats and resonators. I didn't take measurements though.

2" on all years and engines from the cat back. The bends tend to be smaller like right before the muffler as 02V8Sport has stated.

The pipe before the mid car connection maybe 2 1/4" but I never measured.

But the cat back is definately 2"

Maybe it is 2 then. I bought 2.25 mufflers and the guy put them on without cursing too much

Are the complete Magnaflow systems the same diameter the entire way through?

If so I think thats where lots of people get confused.

The Magna-Flow cat-back system is a mandrel bent 2.25" system so yes the same all the way.

What is confusing about that is Magna-Flow has it listed as a 2.5" system, but it isn't. They never bothered to fix the info. I called them to point it out as misleading, the people I talked to really didn't care at all that they falsely advertise it. Good product though.

I have a magna-flow set up on my 01 v6. Not to happy with the sound. My question is, can i acheive a different sound with different tips? I have some standard oval ones on there right now. It just sounds too much like a mustang, not really the sound i was looking for.

doesn't sound like this then, right?

I already was at custom exhaust/muffler shop and as i have said i have 2000 v-8 and the factory exhaust from engine to resonators is 2.25. from resonators to rear mufflers and tailpipes it is 2.0. My factory exhaust is still on car and never removed. All i had done was rear mufflers cut off and had 2.0 straight pipes welded in its place. Now i run open resonators and it woke the car up and sounds nice to boot with a nice growl. It's going to sound even better when i get my custom work done. I'm going to weld in h-pipe cut off resonators and replace them with slp loudmouth resonators and make the rest of exhaust 2.25! The only thing is that the slp's are 2.5 and i will use them but keep the rest of the exhaust stock size for torque and back pressure reasons. Don't want the car to become a dog with too big of an exhaust! 2.5 on second gens will work but on gen1 it will not! it will sound louder but you won't go anywhere and have no torque and performance hell a yugo would beat you if you do that! our engines are too small but we have the horsepower but not torque,2nd gens have more hp 252vs280 and they have more torque so 2.5 won't hurt. if we had 280 or 300 flbs of torque then yes but gen 1's only have 267 lbs torque! hell if i had 2nd gen i would find out stock size and keep it that way and weld in some high performance mufflers!

the 2000 v8 already has a H pipe... right after the resonators

Posted by: 00greenls

I know. I'm going to place h-pipe where the x-pipe would go on the magnaflow catbck exhaust.
