I want to see the shift boot what looks like.
Thanks.

well the V6 uses the same auto trans as the V8 correct... i wonder how hard it would be to put the v6 manual trans in the v8???

Posted by: owlman

The story goes that the manual transmission cannot handle the added torque of the V8.

Any manual trannys that will work with the V8?

Nothing that will bolt right up, no.

The '00-'02 V6es had an optional 5-speed manual gearbox, but that's it. And no, that Getrag unit isn't rated to handle the output of the 3.9L V8.

To put a manual transmission in an LS, you should be able to use the gearbox from the '05 and newer Mustangs (the floorpan was one of the few things the Mustang inherited from the LS), but dang near everything else will be custom (read "$$$$$"). You'll need a custom bellhousing, possibly a custom flywheel, a custom driveshaft (no u-joint yoke on the LS), and custom brackets for the custom clutch and brake pedals. You might be able to adapt the factory V6 pedal assembly, if you could find the parts (they made fewer than 1200 LSes with manual transmissions).

And, oh yeah, you'll need an XCal and a knowledgeable SCT tuner (like ILLS or Torrie) who can go through the PCM code to find and eradicate all of the errors that'll be thrown when the PCM looks for signals from the non-existent tranny.

It can be done, but it's certainly not a trivial (or inexpensive) project.

The shift boot on my LS has come completely unattached, I have heard that this is a common problem with them. I should be able to supply any measurements you need. I can take a pic if you would like. I would be interested in a replacement if the cost was reasonable. PM me if you want me to take the measurements.

woah there was fewer than 1200 5spd ls's! i didnt know my car was that rare!

Measurements will not work. I need to have the shift boot on my hands to use appropiate pattern maesurements. From there I can make as many as I can. Also, I offer colored double stitching for maximum strenght, durability and killer look.

Hmmm... maybe if someone were to send one to you, you could tear it apart for the pattern, then for their "donation" you could make them a new boot as compensation! Would make for good advertising for you...

Posted by: 2001LSV65SPD

I can send mine but all the clips are broken off. Let me know.

Such a shame that is too, the transmission ruins this car. Well maybe not 'ruins it' but it's a serious piece of junk. I can make a shift in sport shift mode and literally place both hands back on the wheel and count one thousand one, one thousand two before the junk actually shifts. I won't even start on the automatic mode........stepping off my soapbox now.....sorry.

I am making more shift boots for many cars already. vw GTI, Focus, mustangs, escorts and now the LS. I even have a especial line for those who want a short boot for their short shifter handle, like B&M and others...

Escort zx2:

I also have black perforated:

And pretty soon red too:

And last, I also can make inner door inserts:
Perforated line shown below:

Is ok, you could have yous for FREE except shipping costs.

Posted by: owlman

Hmm, I wonder how that would look if you could rig one up for the automatic shifter...
