SCT 2/D4 better then SST?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Has anyone seen big gains with the SCT programmer... has anyone got any time slips after tunes... what the difference was....

also my car is a first gen.. is it normal for the car to seem faster in D4 the SST... is SST more for cornering and holding gears?

can you change the shift points of D4 with a programmer?

thanks guys

yes - with the right tune - 19rwph with only intake/exhaust mods. SCT claimed 14rwhp on a total stock V8.

the shift points and firmness can be altered with the programmer.

I have before tune track times and after tune dyno numbers in my photo gallery.

Posted by: lincoln00

it doesnt show what you put down stock???

Posted by: NYC LS8

That's because I didn't dyno it stock, nor with a stock tune.

SST is much faster than D4. the problem you have with SST is it is starting in second gear. PM me if you really want some answers.

stock I ran 15.6
tuned by KBX Performance with retarded timing for nitrous (that wasnt spraying) and 20" rims 15.4

I bet without the 4 degrees of retard in my timing and stock wheels my first gen would have busted somewhere near the 15.2.

The first gens aren't the weak little sisters of LS community that everyone thinks. I DESTROYED a second gen on the highway with just a tune. They wake up big time with the tune. You might only see 15rwhp, but the tune lets it all get used MUCH better!

Now I don't want to start something hostile here, but let's compare tunes between ILLS and Torrie. I'm still up in the air.

Well, ILLS has an LS. He knows more about it than someone who didn't own one. Torrie does offer one more tune than Rob does. But I think Rob's tunes are complete custom for you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. When I decide to move forward with an XCal, I'll be giving Rob a call.

I'm pretty sure Torrie's are custom, but I'm not completely sure. How about pricing for ILLS?

I was thinking and spoke to NickT88LSC a few weeks ago about getting a tune from ILLS to see if I could notice any difference. I still may do that, just haven't had the time.

Who did the one you're currently using?

Posted by: NYC LS8

Torrie

I don't think ILLS is allowed to discuss prices on here publicly. You'll have to PM him. But the prices are very similar. But you get an extra tune for the same price from Torrie.

That's all I needed to know.

Well - y'all know that I have work with Torrie for many years - we were the first ones to get a tune into an LS, helped SCT and Steeda get through the first kinks with the LS bus interfering with the uploads. Torrie has done many, many LSes for several clubs we belong to.

Every tune is a custom one - reguardless of who you get it from, they can add or remove certain features - and often bundle in the most common requests (remove the rpm limiter, the speed limiter, ...etc). They can then send you updated tunes via e-mail if for some reason your car reacts differently to the tunes, ...or you modify your car later and want to try something more. (god knows I'm on my xxth tune....)

The key is to find someone you like and can keep working with over the long haul. Both Torrie and Robert have they happy customers - that is the important thing. That said - if you can find a local SCT tuner with an in-house dyno - that would give you the most direct tune for your car possible.

I just wanted to see for myself if there were any driveability differences purely out of boredom. Maybe I'll get around to it someday...
