I have a 93 Lincoln Continental with the 3.8 liter
I have major trany problems it will shift eratic and sometims it wont shift till like way late and at like low speeds it just jerks around and bucs and kinda stalls out and wont do nothing for a minute then it goes fine this is not an everytime thing but does it too much though through out all this the spedometer will read 0 and when it reads 0 i lose the biggest part of my power steering as well i dont umnderstand aNy of this this i have replaced the filter and fresh fluid what do u guys think??????

you need the VSS replaced.

Vehicle Speed Sensor. it sends speed info to the EEC (for engine and trans control), dash, cruise, air suspension, power steering assist, and maybe even a couple other things.

known to fail, and cause the exact symptoms your having.

they are not hard to replace, or very expensive, just a biatch to get too. get under the car, look up at the back of the tranny where the rear bank exhaust pipe comes down. then too the passenger side a little. you will see it sticking out parallel to the ground from the top of a housing that holds the drive gear.

it might be easier to change it the way I did, that is to jack up car, pull right front wheel, remove the rear motor mount (one nut top, one bottom), loosen front motor mount (just loosen bottom a quite a bit) and reach in the hole you just made by removing the rear mount to get the housing off (with VSS attached). there are 2 or 3 small bolts holding the housing, and one is hidden from you (gotta reach over the housing to get it). reverse procedure to reinstall.
