What is the best Les Paul guitar out there?

Is it the 1957 reissue? Or is it the new 2008 Standard with the new tuning and Plek'd neck? If you had a choice to spend upwards of $3,000, which Les Paul would you buy? I like the Les Paul Custom--Silverburst is not bad.

And which is the best Amp and Cabinet for under $1,000? Mesa, Peavey, Marshall, Roland, etc.? Let's say an amp of about 100 watts.
