Oil change interval

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have always kept to the 3 month/3k mile rule that has been around since before I was born. I recently switched to Mobil 1 and afte a couple 3000k changes I'm thinking about going a little longer before changes.

What oil is everybody running and how long do you go between changes?

I've always run synthetic, the brand varies though and change every 5,000. If you're using Mobil 1 you should be fine with 5,000 mile intervals. The oil can hold up longer, but the filter can't.

When the car tells you, if your using synth then every other time. That "oil life" indicator is pretty dang good.

There has NEVER been a "3 month" rule for oil, that comes from quick-oil change places. Ever since fuel injection (well, about then) there has been a sharp reduction in fuel mixing with oil. Always go by milage or the actual condition of oil.

If the US alone actually followed even the cars recommended interval change, which for most is now 5k or more, I am sure gas prices would be a decent amount lower right now.

People who change oil every 3k or 3 months should not complain about gas prices! Ok, off soap box.
