Broken grille

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: ladenblowfish

Hey everyone. The previous owner of my mark somehow broke the upper part of the grille. So I was going to remove it and try to repair it but when I got it off, it was actually superglued together right down the center. So instead of finding a different grille and pay $100+, I decided to think up something else to do with the hole I now had in the front.

You're not going to leave it like that, are you?

Posted by: ladenblowfish

Thats a super crappy picture. I'll get a couple better pics up tomorrow. I sprayed everything on the inside where the grille was black and made a bracket for the Cobra emblem. It looks waaayyyyy better in person. The only problem I have left is the tabs on the bottom where the grille used to sit on the bumper. I need to find a way to make those tabs less noticeable. I did add some tabs in the holes where the grille used to bolt to the bumper. The flash was on when I took the picture so it makes everything in the back show up. You don't see all that in person. Same basic concept with the mustang cobra's.

So you are gonna leave that as an open hole? Seems like a bad idea...

What about road debris?

What about the ability for thieves to easily open the hood?

Posted by: ladenblowfish

Not worried about thieves. Parks in the garage at home and parks at the front door at work.

Posted by: ladenblowfish

Road debris, I'm not planning on riding behind a dump truck carrying gravel. No problems. Like I said, it looks much better in person.

I wouldn't do it...

Posted by: ladenblowfish

Well, I'm not finished of course. Still more tinkering to do tomorrow.

Im not saying anything til I see more pics

Posted by: ladenblowfish

What do you guys think I should do about the tabs on the top of the bumper? They stick out like a sore thumb.

Posted by: unity

Put in a grille to cover them up? Ok, I kid.

I was thinking too bad there is not a way to bend a fold a trim piece to surround the enclosure.

I actually like the look with the emblem and no grille. I tried to snap a shot before the batteries died in my wife's camera. I agree the hole is kinda big, but the emblem is pretty big also and your eyes focus on it instead of the missing grille. Never really liked the look of the gen 1 grille to begin with.

Me too, but I have a project that I am working on that MAY look good. Well, I hope.

you dont have to follow a dump truck to cause a problem, all it takes is one small piece of gravel to pierce the ac condensor, if you dont mind not having ac leave it like that. personally i think it looks terrible with no grill. at least try and make one of some kind if you dont want to buy a factory one. maybe get some expanded metal and cut it to the shape and spray it black. anything will look better then that hole.

It looks like poop! Either buy a used grille or fab something up, anything but that!

Sorry but someone had to say it.
