hard downshift from 2-1

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

my 95 when slowing down shifts pretty hard from 2-1, hard enough to annoy me, would a tranny flush and fluid swap to mercon v do the trick, or am i stuck with the hard shift? and am also wondering will this be even more noticible when i get my lms chip, because it reduces trans slippage.

Posted by: normohl

still wondering if mercon v and a tranny flush will help this. and will a chip make it worse?

maybe one of the 1-2 accumulator springs broke, never heard of a hard downshift though, usually it just a hard 1-2 upshift

Posted by: normohl

maybe the upshift could be hard also, i just do not flog it most the time. any pictorials on the accumulator replacment, i have seen the write ups, but with no tranny knowlage its hard to guess.

look for jmod or 1-2 accumulator upgrade, there might even be a tech article somewhere. not too hard, drop the pan, make a mess, remove snap ring remove cover and the springs and the piston, and reinstall

Did you check the LVC tech articles? Some pics of 1-2 process there.

well I don't know, when ever I am braking I can always feel the 2-1 shift on both of my Mark VIIIs. Its not that hard, its just more noticeable then the other shifts. Is this what you are talking about? If it is, do other people feel this too?

If you have a chip they are programed to increase fluid pressures and will make the down shifts faster and harder also. Sounds like 1-2 accumulator or a bad seal or stuck valve if the up shifts are smooth. I would not install a chip until you get the down shift problem fixed it will make it worse.

i planned on getting the car back up and running 100% smooth before i get any upgrades.
