wtf is chicken up to now?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: chickenviii

so can anybody tell me what im doing? heres a couple pics to help out

Posted by: unity

Working on a Town Car or Continental? Converting a Mark to front coils?

Posted by: chickenviii

nope it on my mark, look closer and you will see everything

Posted by: 93' Blue on blue

Ya, i remember you saying about this... Hopefully it works!

Posted by: mespock

Getting rid of the rusted tray from under his Gen 2

Posted by: chickenviii

oh it will work, its fully mounted, just need to power it, and that is gonna be cake the hardest part was mounting it

Posted by: 93' Blue on blue

Hey chicken! Add some air tanks etc. Then you could power your air tools off your car! Lolol.

Posted by: chickenviii

naw i got the shops air compressor for that. im just happy it went as easy as it did, i didnt even pull the bumper cover had it fully mounted in about 1 hour.
come on, no one can see what im doing? unity was kinda close just look at everything in the pic dont just focus on the 2 port compressor

Posted by: crownvicjim

putting in an ASHAM8 or whatever. lol.

Posted by: chickenviii

no i got a "original" rays switch, but i am tired of waiting for the car to raise, so im speeding it up a bit

Posted by: unity

Ah... after-market 12v compressor.

Let me know what you used. Two years ago I drew up plans for this but to put it all in the trunk where moisture levels are low. I could not find the CFM rating for the factory pump and wanting something rated much higher.

Cool!

Posted by: chickenviii

nope stock compressor
ps look to the left of the compressor, whats that, hidden in all the airlines?

Posted by: unity

Maybe if I knew a Gen II better.... lol

Beats me!

Posted by: chickenviii

well if you look to the left of the compressor you will see...........another compressor!!!!
thats right im gonna go twin compressors. the obvious one in the pic is a new one for a navi (hence the 2 port dryer) i also have another 2 port dryer for my stock comp and im gonna power it with a old school ford starter solonoid. im not doing anything fancy like a fast bag sys, just doing twins for a lil faster filling after a full drop

Posted by: unity

Cool. I wonder how it will work! Guess we will know in a bit?!!?!

Posted by: chickenviii

should be able fo find a few minutes this week, also the way im doing this if one should ever fail in 20 minutes i can go back to a single compressor

Posted by: unity

What about a kill switch? Something that will kill the second compressor so it only operates when its needed?

Posted by: chickenviii

i thought about that too, but for now im just going as simple as i can. air comp relay will just "trigger" a ford starter solonoid and that will supply both compressors power from there. as for venting im using a old spidervalve so i dont use the stock vent sys anyway

Posted by: unity

Well thats creative, using the relay to trigger what is really a bigger really that can handle the power of both. Very nice, cant wait to see how it works out!

Might need a second alt lol

Posted by: chickenviii

lol i can get a big ole cap lolol
me and ray were discussing this a long time ago, but knowing ray he kept the solonoid part to himself, "trade secrets" lolol and he mentioned that part to 96hotrodlincoln who then ended up telling me a little while after ray passed, so its not all my ideas, im just the first (that i know of) to try it and i had a few spair parts around so the project so far has been free

Posted by: k9t8m

let us know how it works out. I love to see a vid when its done 2.

Posted by: XLRVIII

holy two compressors batman!

weird looking dryer with only two outlets...funky

Posted by: 96hotrodlincoln

I got my second compressor out of the gen1, looking at maybe doing the same, let me know how it works out.

Posted by: Russo

very interested to see how this works out, one compressor is painfully slow in filling the bags up after a full drop.

Posted by: chickenviii

so tonight i found some amp wire, like 8 gauge and a inline fuse and holder, so all i need to buy is a ford fender mounted starter soloniod and maybe a hour total to wire it up, and pics/vids etc hopefully some time this week i can wrap this up i wanna make sure its all good before boscobel. even if its still the same speed rising (cuz the small lines) it should cut the work load of the compressor in half

Posted by: chickenviii

pssst it works...........

Posted by: unity

YAY!!!!!

How well?

Posted by: chickenviii

lift speeds cut in half, well MWB and i counted 45 sec from full drop to ride height and it was the full 90

Posted by: 93' Blue on blue

Come on chicken, put up a video!

Posted by: k9t8m

yes yes we are all waiting. lol.

Posted by: 96hotrodlincoln

Damn, looks like I need to get on the stick and get mine done, I'm thinking about putting mine in the trunk, since it's a stock mark compressor it has all four outputs. So I'll just cut the lines and plug them in, hopefully this will also help with venting the rear faster. I need to call Eddie and see about getting a new dryer assembly for the other compressor. Also, chicken, I'd like to know what solenoid you used, if you have a part number.

Posted by: chickenviii

no vids yet, cuz im going looting in IA this weekend, ok fine im not looting but i am goting to IA , and im busy packing everything.
drove the mark to and from work again today, still no problems. mine doesnt vent slower cuz im using a spider valve, it was noticablly quicker rising, everytime i stopped i never heard the compressors since they are already done filling by the time you stop.
as for the solenoid its just a ford starter solenoid, i dunno know the part number, just one for a 87 f150 (i knew that used it, cuz i had one) but i was working on a 00 f150 today and i noticed it has the same one. i will draw us a crappy schematic and a tech article after i get back, i need to take pics and make everything look better,

Posted by: chickenviii

ok, so ive discovered that i cant draw wiring diagrams to save my life so heres a overview, i ran a 10 gauge wire from the battery to a inline fuse holder then to one of the big terminals on the starter solenoid, then 2 wires from the other big terminal one going to each compressors red wire, making sure to leave about a inch on the connector side of the red wire on the factory compressor. run another wire from the inch of wire on the connector end of the factory compressor to the small terminal on the solenoid. run the ground wire for the 2nd compressor and also make sure the solenoid is grounded and set up the air lines and let her go, im gonna try to remember to take the camera to work tomorrow and catch a vid

Oh' come on, they don't have to be perfect pix's drawn. They can just be a sketch and use colored pencils or felt tips.

I do have some new software that makes pro drawings.

For a starter solenoid you can just draw a circle with the studs sticking out of that circle.

Here are a few examples.
They have nothing to do with Lincolns. They are boat related.

What amp fuse?

then 2 wires from the other big terminal one going to each compressors red wire
What gage wire?

Is this from each compressor? Does the solenoid you picked have 2 small terminals or one?

Posted by: warthog5

Hows this? I didn't know what size fuse to install in the fuse holder.

Posted by: mafioso

BTW DO NOT use the ford starter relays they are momentary relays and you WILL start a fire.
trust me I know from experiance.

Goto the local autoparts store and get a 40amp bosch style relay for fog lights and use that.

Posted by: chickenviii

ok heres whats up, my internet at home is down and the soonest someone can come out is tomorrow night, the diag is close but not correct, i will draw up something and scan it in just gotta wait for the cable guy, i was using a 40 amp fuse till it blew last night, so right now im not using a fuse (i know i know) as for the 40 amp relay i think i will pull too much through it any bigger options out there?

Posted by: unity

Is there a delay solenoid that someone makes? These things might have a big startup pull of amps. Maybe one should start a second after the first.

Posted by: warthog5

HaHa So I wasted my time except to relearn to use the software.

When you sketch it up Chicken, send it to me and I'll make a neat drawing for you.

ok just to eliminate some confusion, it is NOT a starter relay, it is a starter solenoid, it can pull 200a all day long with no probs, and its only running for at max 40 sec at a time. i got a pic skeched out just aint got a scanner at work, so it will have to wait till im up at home

Posted by: warthog5

Can you send it as a attachment to my email?

Found this hunting around.

Looking around some more I found this and it appears to be more inline with what you really need. It's designed for continous duty.

http://www.wiringproducts.com/index1.html

SPST 12V 85A Grounded Continous (67015) (+$44.99) It is grounded, so just bolting it to the fender well will take care of the ground.

Posted by: chickenviii

ok email sent, and uploading videos now, also realizing need to get better vids too dark, ill get some this week at work
*ninja edit* ok well heres the vid, it sux, but you can see after the lag it goes up fast

I had similar relay issues with my cooling fan bypass. The 40A cube type relay couldn't hold up under extensive use.

I found a "charging relay" for some kind of electric forklift - a heavy duty 12V SPDT relay that dwarfs any starter solenoid or relay and has a 100% duty cycle. It's about the size of a 12 oz Coke can. LOL

thats a little big, honestly i see no prob with a stock solenoid, if it can handle the cranking amps from starting most all ford engines for many many years, a few seconds of "light" usage will be fine

Oh I agree, my cooling fan mod to your suspension mod is apples and oranges. When at the track, my fan will be on more than it is off.

Toooo SWEET!!!!! I WANNA SEE AND HEAR!!!!! You are going to Richs yeah!?

Loving the tailend lift!!!

MsM8

Posted by: chickenviii

of course im going, and i did put up a crappy vid look at post #44

Posted by: MsM8tress

yeah....crappy, that is why I wanna see n hear....but still impressed with the bootylift.... I want a fast risin booty too!!!!

I usually have to mash the switch 2-3 times to get him all the way up, back side likes takin it's time.

Give MsChickie my luv and tell her HI!!!!!!

Posted by: chickenviii

its fast once the psi goes up, still takes a sec but once it starts movin its gone, the rear is insanely fast and thats with all my stereo crap in the back too

Posted by: MsM8tress

the vid did show that much (how fast ur tail wnet up)... the front end, well mine is about that fast, but your fasta55 has me beat!!!!

Posted by: warthog5

I did the drawing Chicken and sent it to you to check before a upload to the forum.

I can change anything that needs to be changed real easy with this software.

Posted by: chickenviii

ok, i made another couple vids and of course the wife needed the good camera in AR so heres my old camera so its a lil rough. heres vid #3, #2 looks basically like the first vid i posted http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...oID=37609 812
*edit* still need to figure out how many amps they are pulling to figure out what size fuse to use

Posted by: 96hotrodlincoln

Seems like your SCM takes forever to fire the compressor, mine doesn't seem like it takes that long to register and start adjusting the system. Maybe it's just a 98 thing.

Posted by: chickenviii

now it fires like normal, your just hearing all the road noise off of 88 (my car doesn't sound like that)

Posted by: JoshMcMadMac

Does one compressor run the front and one the rear?

Posted by: warthog5

This is a schematic that I worked on for Chicken. The only thing missing is the fuse size. He hasn't got back to me yet on that.

Posted by: chickenviii

thanks warthog5 and still no info on amperage (my inductive pickup isnt working....ugh)
and no joshmcmadmac the way a markviii works is it fills the front bags first then the rear, splitting the sys would be too much work, not to mention i have a spider valve that equalizes all the psi anyway so this setup just increases the psi faster

Posted by: ILLS

Hey chicken when are you planning to put some "go" with that "show"???

Posted by: chickenviii

looking at a sniper tuner, got some 3.73's laying around, eventually i will make my car faster since all ive ever done to it is make it heavier

Posted by: MsM8tress

Sweet! back end is still coming up in 1/3 the time the front does.....man...I am sooo wanting to raise fast....
