new front bag leakage.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i just installed new front air bags, and when i initially pumped them up, the one side took a second and started pumping up after a pretty loud bang. i dont know if the bags poped or the line was clogged and just popped but it has a fast leak. any sugestions other than take the wheel off and look?

it still filled up right? solonoid could of been stuck

New bags, especially the rear, can bind a bit with the bags. Its a good idea to not lower the car after install. Instead pull the height sensors and let the compressor fill them up some. My rear ones popped loud.

Or the solenoid pop out of its socket.

Did you fit new seals to the solenoids when fitting the new bags? And are the solenoids fully engaged with their lock ring on? Might be leaking there. You are gonna have to check around for the source - could be a solenoid, could be an air line popped out etc.

both still fill up, but i can hear a loud leak from the one side, my guess is that it might have blew one of the o rings or something because i have the clips on the solenoids and everything else was installed properly. i also did all 4 brakes yesterday (new pads calipers and rotors) and i have a sound like the right rear pad fell out and the caliper is rubbing metal. but the pads are still in there? i was thinking defective pad, maybe?

check your air line make sure it didnt work free

Posted by: normohl

if it worked free then the one side would not pump up. they both pump up but leak.

spray the solonoids with soapy water, i bet a oring slid down when installing

lots of times its not the airbags just the seals in the solonoids,I just had that experenice and its a lot cheaper and you can do it yourself

I have a '96 that has possible leaky front air springs. The funny thing is that they don't always leak down. And sometimes it seems to depend upon the weather. If it's a cool, humid night, the front end will be on the ground the next morning. But if it's a warm, dry night, it can sit all night and not drop an inch. And it sometimes drops a couple of inches while I'm at work, and sometimes it doesn't drop at all. I'm beginning to think the suspension has a mind of its own. I'm hoping that it's the solonoid seals or a leak in the line. I just don't want to have to replace my air spring/shocks again any time soon. It's not that it's hard to do,(I can change both air spring/shocks in less than an hour in my bacvk yard!) I just can't afford to buy another set right now. But it is frustrating as hell, and it's really taxing the compressor.

Not really, the pump is fast enough to keep up with a line out.

got it all fixed up, went to the hardware and got new O rings, fixed it right up. there is a twist in one my my new front bags because i had to turn the bottom a little to get the bolt to match up, is this a bad thing, when the bags are pumped the bag is creased, this makes me think bad things (arrnot good?)

Posted by: unity

A twisted bag is not a good thing.

i got them from american suspension, i need to get a new bag, it has a crease bad! how am i going to do that? its my only car. i cannot take the strut off and send it off and wait for the new one, i need to go to work, what do i do?

Posted by: unity

Just call him. He will either have a solution or I am sure he will send you another to swap.

Posted by: normohl

my bad i got them from strutmasters, but i called they and they said jack it up drop the strut from the top, loosen the big center nut a little put the bag back in fill it up, tighten the three bolts holding the strut in the top, and then tighten the top large bolt again and it should get the crease out, if not then they will send me a new one. cool.

Be afraid. Be Very afraid.

It specifically says in several places in the factory manual.

Quote:
Caution: Do not remove the front shock absorber large center nut as this can result in a permanent air leak through the top of the air spring.
I didn't remove it. I loosened it and got a leak, a small leak. I tried to tighten it more and it leaked worse.

I did this on the RF unknowingly. I bought 2 new struts to fix it.
