i am pretty impressed with it. under normal driving, it still has the nice soft, almost can't feel shifts. but over about 1/2 throttle has a nice quick shift. i was actually expecting it to shift harder, but its not harsh at all, just quick. anyone thinking about doing it, go for it!

i even bought a new 1-2 accumulator, only to find it already had the updated one, so thats a plus for sure. i forgot to install my cooler, i guesse i will just do that tomorow.

You know I keep seeing where people did it and love it but I still have no idea what it is? LOL

nice we should run our cars too see how much of an improvement it is over stock

how long did it take you? and does it chirp the wheels from 1-2

what is the "j-mod"

Posted by: jbird97

Its a shift kit, sort of, but instead of being a kit that pinches the lines to create more pressure, you open up some holes in the seperator plates to allow more fluid to flow into the accumulaters. Its a cheap and safe way to make shifts faster. Designed by Ford Engineer, Jerry (last name escapes me). A full write up can be found on tccoa.com

mine not only chirps the tires but it will spin them and send the car sideways if im not careful.

i should put that lower spring in.........

Yea, if you only get the insane 1-2 shift if you leave out the spring.

it doesnt come close to chiping the tires, but i do have both springs in. it took a couple hours, but i was going really slow and taking my time. its pretty simple when you get it all apart. and with a air ratchet, it goes fairly quick.

ford dealer for parts. i doubt you could find a shop willing to do this. best you could do is ask around. maybe youll find a ford trans tech willing to do it on the side or something.

Call Darrin @ BC Automotove. He'll set you up with a pre-j modded valve body for a reasonable price.

Posted by: unity

The plate, not the valve body. The valve body does not need any work. Its the separator plate that get the "J-Mod" treatment. The 1-2 accumulator replacement is something many do during the J-Mod since they have it all apart anyway.

i need a flush soon,so mercon v is the way to go?

Posted by: wood_e

I'm going to put new fluid in and was thinking of doing the j-mod and the 1-2 upgrade.

Where can I get a pre-jmodded valve body?

What about the deep sump pan? Anyone use this?

I also bought a bunch of royal purple MaxATF - I need this trans to last a while.

Yup. Mercon V. Did the J Mod 2 weeks ago. (bought a kit from a guy on tccoa which included the plate and gaskets, revised 1-2 and blue spring, revised 2-3, and new style filter)

Got the Castrol Mercon V from Autozone - cost 48 bux for 15 quarts (they forgot to charge me for the extra 3 - tehehe...)

Edit: Reference deep sump pan: I had to get the new style Ford pan with the extra pocket to use the filter that was supplied in my kit. Extra deep pans are available from the likes of SCP though.

Shift kits do not "pinch the lines". They more or less do the exact same thing that the J-mod does but also include an extra spring or two for the VB. Same basic thing.
