vibration/possible scraping

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Alright, this is going to be kinda vague. I get a vibration of sorts when accelerating and pressing the gas pedal. it almost feels a bit like scraping, or like a rough road. I feel it through the pedal and through the floor a bit with my foot that is not on the gas. It is pretty subtle, so sometimes I think i'm imagining it.

I have tried to listen with the windows open, and I don't really hear anything. I get a p0420 code which possibly has to do with the cats not working correctly.

I was thinking this could be in some way brake or bearing related. Its sort of like i feel the road too much. Any ideas? Any similar experiences?

Does the vibration mainly happen around the 30-35mph mark?

I am experiencing the same exact problem myself.

I think I have a bad injector on my car. It's possibly sticking. It might be this. Originally I had a bad wheel bearing on the front passenger, and that's where the vibration seemed to be coming from. Got it fixed, vibration still there. So now I'm thinking injectors.

Do any of your cars idle slightly rough? Specifically in the morning/first start of the day?

i do tend to feel it more when i get up to speed.

also today i noticed a bit of a groan when accelerating from a stop. it seemed to be shifting related because it was only for a moment as I believe the car was shifting. it seemed like the second time the car shifted i heard it. kinda like a mmmmmmmmmm sound. my transmission has already been replaced.

i know my car is kinda old at 160k, but it sure seems to have an awful lot of problems. kinda sad that american cars are like this (in my experience). i loved the car until i owned it. I guess all cars have there noises, and man i hate the brakes. i just hope it's nothing serious that i need to fix now or risk more serious damage.

sometimes it feels like its idling rough. its not missing or anything and its not serious shaking. it just seems like it is wearing on itself.

What kind of tires do you have?

Posted by: jrdpf17

good looking out . thanks. I think my tires are ok, a bit worn but not too bad they are just regular tires, i think the brand and type is yokohama geolandar g900. could even be the problem.

Posted by: 97stscaddy

Geolandar's usually have a pretty aggressive semi-offroad tread pattern. Id be willing to bet that's probably all it is. All tires tend to make more noise as they wear down, so its not uncommon for noises or slight vibrations to gradually build over a period of several weeks or months.

One thing you can try is rotate the tires. And see of the noise "moves" with the tires. If it sounds like its coming from the front, and after the rotation it seems to come from the back, then you have your answer.
