Alarm going off.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

ok, a buddy and i both have the same problem with our marks (95's) - when you lock it sometimes the alarm will go off for no reason, so I have to take the - off the battery. To remedy this i have been locking it by manually pushing down on the lock on top of the door. - so that the alarm doesnt engage.

what causes this? this has to be a common thing?

it is pretty common, as to what causes it, who knows, I know mine was partly caused by the switches in the door latch mechanism. Sometimes they would suddenly cause the alarm to go off. It took some time for me to figure out what was going on. Your best bet is to just disable it, rather than try to troubleshoot it.

This MIGHT help you. During the winter mine was going off while driving. Turns out my 50,000 mile old replacement alternator was the culprit. Put a new lifetime warrantied one in; no more problems.

thanks, that link/post was very useful.

I have the same problem on my 93' and I found it to not go off if I only hit the lock button (on the remote) once

Posted by: AbrahamLincoln

i did the test and it blinked 3 times.

i think its my hood switch because there was some issues with the p/o with the hood latch. Where is exactly is the hood switch?

Also i have some play in my ignition (key lock) so i thought that would def be it but the diagnostic shows 3 flashes which indicates a short in the "luggage compartment"(is that a fancy word for trunk?) or "hood switch". The diagnostic doesnt say anything about the flashing for a short in the actually ignition anti theft switch so im basically hoping that the three flashes mean my problem is the hood switch... because i doubt its my trunk.

im gonna try turning my car on and popping the hood to see if the message center says "hood open" (im guessing theres an indicator if its open for that) and if i pop it and nothing comes up i know that the issue lies there...

Isn't the ani-theft a great feature.

Posted by: mark0101

the car would never say "Hood open" or anything about the hood being open.

Under the hood!

Check mespock's air filter shield thread to see pics of it. (mounted to passenger inner fender)

i imagine this is it?

Posted by: 93' Blue on blue

Yup. I removed mine long ago - made no difference, so i removed my alarm module. (alarm was no use to me anyway - i live far away from my car)

ok, i unhooked it and ran the diagnostic test again and it only blinks once now! hooray no more short! However, i have this peculiar problem, that started before i even unhooked it that i just noticed.

when i open the door pass or drivers with the key out of the ignition - the anti theft light blinks... but when i close the door it stops blinking and doesnt light up.

i thought its supposed to blink after you close the door not whiles open so that when you lock it and the doors closed the anti theft stays constantly lit up and thats how you know the alarms on.

i could be wrong this might be the way its supposed to work because i lost my fob several months ago.

if i lock the car via the driverside lock with the key from outside the car... the light does not come on either.

the only way i can keep the alarm engaged is to open the door and then hit the lock button, then close the door.... any ideas?
