A great site to learn the basics and fundamentals of auto detailing.

Posted by: pektel

Kyle, do you get paid for the advertisement in your signature?

Posted by: KD00LS

Nope, it's my friends clothing company that's just getting off the ground. He doesn't even know I have it on here. You could possibly get a sponsorship if you wanna put a company in your signature, as long as it abides by forum rules. That would be cool if you could get some detailing products for free.

Posted by: pektel

Ah, that makes sense then.

Posted by: KD00LS

Posted by: KD00LS

So at the very least... I've spent 1400 bucks.

Posted by: pektel

Okay, I'll bite. Here's my lineup from what I can recall. I'm at work, so there will probably be stuff I forget:

Tools: PC7424, hand pump pressure sprayer (for degreasing the engine bay), garden hose, MF dread lock wash brush (going to zymol sponges in the spring), Uber MF towels that only touch paint and glass surfaces (30), waffle weave MF drying towel(1), misc. general use MF towels (a bunch), 2 bucket method with grit guard, LC CCS pads (6.5, 5.5 and 4 inch), fender brush from Target for the wheel wells, misc. brushes for wheels, California Blade (only until spring, when I pick up an electric leaf blower), Craftsman shop-vac.

Products:
Wash: Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss, sample of DP Extreme Foam, Meg's Gold Class
Claybar: Adam's grey, Meg's white, Mother's yellow (for wheels), Meguiar's Last Touch spray detailer for lube (gallon)

QD: FK425 <-- Possibly the BEST QD out there, Duragloss Aquawax
Wheels: S100 Total Cycle Cleaner, PB Wheel Sealant
Interior: Folex Carpet Cleaner, Meg's Quik Interior Detailer (nice matte finish), Duragloss Vinyl & Rubber Dressing, Simple Green
Glass: Stoners IG, Adam's Claybar (who needs Rain-X when you claybar your windshield?), Glass Science Rain Clear (Haven't used yet, picked it up at Walmart for 4 bucks.)
Trim: Stoner's More Shine
Tires: Meg's Hot Shine Gel, Stoner's More Shine, AA Extreme Shine, Surf City Beyond Black
Degreaser: Meg's Super Degreaser, Stoner's Tarminator

I'm sure I'm forgetting things, and I'm REALLY sure I don't want to add up what I've spent so far

Posted by: pektel

And here's my most 2 recent acquisitions:

Posted by: KD00LS

Don't you have the duragloss 105 or 501 as well for the wheels? Let me know how that Lusso is! My Beyond Black is on it's way as well as some Amazing Roll Off..

Posted by: pektel

Yep, see I knew I'd forget something. It's the 501.

I don't know if I'll have a chance to try the Lusso before spring. I just couldn't pass up the great deal I got on it.

Posted by: pektel

I was also looking at a pot of Dodo Juice Rubbish Boy's too. 55 bucks shipped.

Posted by: KD00LS

Is there anything we really haven't tried that we should? Obviously there are some waxes out there that are just ridiculous in price, but what about other products? We've tried Black Wow for trim, Menzerna for polish(I haven't tried it though, is ff any good?), Klasse and PB EX-P sealant, a variety of waxes, different soaps....

I'm thinking we should mess around with some degreasers, glass cleaners(Zep or Finish Kare), and some undercarriage spray like Megs Hyper Dressing and Bare Bones, and some different applicators. What do you think Pete?

Posted by: KD00LS

I think Jeff's Werkstatt is on my list too. Trigger is 15 bucks and the rest of the products are relatively cheap.

Posted by: KD00LS

This is a prime opportunity for all of you discount Pep Boys and Costco microfiber users to hop on the luxury train. One of my friends from detailingbliss.com, Justin, just opened up a new website, TheRagShack.com. He's promoting one of the best quality line of microfibers we've seen so far to date. Very thick, very plush, very soft. The regular all purpose towels are extremely plush compared to the normal run of the mill one, and light years ahead of the discount ones you might have purchased at Costco or some other big chain store. If that wasn't good enough, check out the Shag Rag. This thing is the pinnacle of microfiber towels, good for buffing, polishing, and removing wax.

Here's a few pictures of his lineup and some closeups of the Shag Rag. As you can see, these microfibers are easily a higher quality than the dishrags you are using(and I previously was). Justin is a great guy to work with and being a detailer himself, he knows what he's talking about and won't settle for mediocre. I'll talk to him about a possible discount code. PM me with any questions.

Posted by: KD00LS

I just got the go from Justin on a discount code for you guys. Enter "micro25" at checkout to receive 25% savings. This brings the total for 10 towels down to 19.50, which is less than two dollars a towel. For this quality, it is an absolute steal.

Posted by: pektel

Guess I'm going to have to buy 10 more towels, dammit. I just bought 20 Uber towels for an excellent deal. Normally 4.99 each. Phil had a buy one, get one sale, and I couldn't pass it up. They are awesome for the paint. Not nearly as plush as those shag rags, but the Ubers remove product so nicely. I only have one real thick buffing towel, and that's teh reTHICKulous towel from detailedimage.com. How do the shag rags compare to the reTHICKulous one, Kyle? I paid 10 dollars for one 16x16 size.

Oh, and about your previous question. Of course, I'm up for trying new products! Especially since they aren't nuba's, it won't break the bank. Give me a list of what you have in mind, andI'll find a few items too. What do you want to limit it to? I like the idea of undercarriage dressings, maybe CG's Fade2Black, since that dries to touch, and might really dress up an engine bay.

I also would really like to try P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner, or the CG's version (which you have to ask for, they don't list it on their site.) I'd like to try P21S TAW too. Have you tried any of these?

Posted by: KD00LS

I'm down for trying Jeff's Werkstatt Trigger. It's supposed to be great on silver and white and super easy. P21S Gel is great. I feel within the next couple years we'll be making a trip to Germany for the Red kind. I'll let you know how those towels are when I get home today, as well as ARO.

Well, let's plan it around Oktoberfest

If you want, we can do a trade on the towels. Do you have any of the Uber ones?

Posted by: JWerner2

God man, some of the names these people come up with for products gets me. Its like going into Spencers gifts and looking at the novelty t-shirt section.

Posted by: KD00LS

I wouldn't even bother trading the towels. Just buy them. They are insane. I left a hand print in them when I was using them yesterday, that's how think these things are.

Posted by: pektel

Too late. Already ordered a pack yesterday

I'll let you know how they compare to the reTHICKulous towel.

Posted by: pektel

Scratch that. Looks like I didn't finish checking out. Oops. now I'm tempted to pick up ONR too. Have you used ONR before?

Posted by: KD00LS

Nope but whenever someone says rinseless wash that's usually a follow up so I guess it's good.

Posted by: pektel

Now the order is placed. The code brought the 32 oz. bottle of ONR down to 11.99!

Posted by: pektel

Dude, Justin ships hella fast. I just got my order via USPS. Under 48 hours to my door. He'll be getting more orders from me.

Posted by: KD00LS

So what's your opinion on the towels Pete?

Posted by: pektel

Well, it's a damn thick towel. Not as nice as my reTHICKulous towel from detailedimage, but the prices were way different so I don't think that's really a good comparison.

I have yet to actually use them. I was going to try out ONR today, but ended up tearing my car apart to install white guages. In fact, that's the only reason I'm at the computer now, is I don't know where to tap in for power.

At first glance, I think I'm REALLY going to like these. At 12x16, I thought they would seem small, but you probably can't fold these too many times anyway.

Posted by: KD00LS

Not as good of quality or not as thick?

Posted by: pektel

Scratch that. The reTHICKulous towel is more dense, but not as plush. The Shag Rags are worth way more than what he's charging for them. I'll place another order soon.

I got a chance to use the shag rags yesterday to dry after using the ONR. Man am I glad I bought ONR! I'm really impressed at how well it worked, and the dirt made it into the sponge. When I dried it off, the towel was wet, but CLEAN. I had to use 2 shag rags at a time. 1 to soak up most of the water, and a second one to get the remaining. Topped with Lusso Oro, and I'm a happy camper. I haven't did teh wheel wells yet since I was at my dad's place, and he doesn't have the brushes for the wheel wells, and I wasn't about to use the same sponge in there.

And on to some bad news. Other than the 20 brand new Uber towels, and 10 shag rags, and my reTHICKulous and WW drying towels, I ruined all my other ones. Among the dead are 10 Ubers, and a bunch of ones from Target, some meguiars ones, and a couple larger drying towels. Here's how it went.

Like any normal guy who likes to keep his car looking clean, I always have a small arsenal in the trunk. Among those things are QD, applicator pads, MF towels, chrome polish, Stoners Invisible Glass, interior detailer, FK425, etc.

Well I brought everything inside since it's getting cold outside. I decided to gather all my MF towels and wash them together. I don't normally do this (I normally wash my "paint" mf's separately), but it was getting late, and I got lazy. Threw a FULL load of towels in the washer, and watched a movie.

Got up to throw the towels in the washer. Pulled a handful out, and they are SPARKLING. Actually reflecting light. My stomach drops, immediately knowing what it is.

I use the chrome polish to clean the exhaust tips. Guess what I apply it with? That's right. Steel wool. Last time I did the tips, I was in a hotel parking lot, so I put the chunk of steel wool in the box I keep everything in. Normally I'd just throw it on the workbench in my garage.

Digging deeper into the washer, I find bits and pieces of the steel wool, but it's mostly disintegrated and spread slivers of it all over my towels. No way to get it out, and there is no way I'm chancing using them again.

I even thought about buying a big magnet, and running it over the towels, hoping it would pull the slivers of steel wool out.

Posted by: KD00LS

Damn that's no fun. You might still be able to use them to buff dressing onto the tires and wheel wells if they aren't so gritty.

Posted by: JWerner2

Ahhh that sucks!

I would just chuck them, I have noticed that nothing works on MF towels/rags once you get fine little things inside them like that. I dropped one in a pile of leaves, that sucked even the smallest pieces of leaves stuck inside the MF. Eventually after about 6 washes it all went away but I still only now use that one on glass around the house.

Thats just a example, I have plenty of other mishaps I can blame on both myself at the park and the wife.

Posted by: KD00LS

J, you should pick up a pack of these towels. You'll like them a lot.

Posted by: KD00LS

Pete, check your PM's. Box might be full.

Posted by: pektel

I just deleted a bunch. I was at the limit. I need a gold membership.

Posted by: pektel

Kyle, I'm going to be ordering some Rubbish Boy's OE wax pretty quick, since I was checking exchange rates right now, and they are awesome. The price (without shiping) on a pot is 59 bucks. Can't pass that up! I was also thinking about picking up some of those german applicators (the 3 color ones), and some bilt hamber clay. I wanted to get the yellow poly clay, but they are currently out of stock.

Posted by: KD00LS

Not a bad price at all. Shippings a bitch though. You should pick one of those drying towels up too. Supposedly Mark V makes some good stuff, do your research before you order.

Posted by: pektel

Nah, shipping was 6.74 GBP. That's about 10 bucks.

I was really thinking about that thick drying towel. It looks REALLY nice.

Posted by: KD00LS

Wow that's surprising. Are you gonna use it this winter? Supposedly CG One is a great non water winter wash. That's a tongue twister.

Posted by: pektel

Nope, not this winter. I just like the exchange rate right now.

I was shopping out of town with the woman yesterday. I was at Best Buy, and she was across the parking lot at TJ Maxx. I was walking over there, when I noticed a Harbor Freight. There isn't one in my town, so I stepped in, and picked up Collinite 845 (14 dollars), a tin of Collinite 476 (under 10 bucks), a wheel brush for the barrels, and some Flitz metal polish. I almost bought some aquapel too, since I've heard good things.

Posted by: KD00LS

Very nice. 845 is my winter quickie wax when I don't wanna be outside for too long. 15 minutes after wash and that's it.

Posted by: KD00LS

Posted by: pektel

Hey, look who it is!

Posted by: KD00LS

He's here to take everyone's money on this site too!

J/K, great to have you.

Posted by: pektel

Yeah, but it's money well spent.

Posted by: KD00LS

Did you pick up Black Wow?

For those who don't know, Black Wow is one of the leading trim dressings on the market. It's great at removing wax buildup off of your black plastic trim.

Posted by: pektel

I'm going to. For that price, I'd be crazy not to buy it! I just need to figure out what else I need to buy at the same time. Can't just buy one thing!

Posted by: Obsessive Detail

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Posted by: pektel

Man, I was hoping to see the EZ Detail Brush on sale...

Posted by: Obsessive Detail

I only have 1 left right now!

Posted by: pektel

Oooo... clearance price for me?

Posted by: pektel

Lookie what showed up today

Posted by: KD00LS

I am very jealous, that's for sure. Let me know how that drying towel is.

Posted by: pektel

This all came in the last week. I think I'm set for a little while

Einszett Proline polish - 5L jugs
5.5" CCS pads - 3 white, 1 black, 1 blue
6.5" PFW
4" low profile flat pads - 8 orange
Black Wow x 2
Lusso Oro x 2
Lusso revitalizing creme x 2
P21S finish restorer
Swissvax Wheel Brush
Uber wash sponge
Grit guard x 2
3M 1500 wet/dry paper
3M 2000 wet/dry paper
Meg's flexible backing pad (for wet sanding)
Meg's wheel brush
Meg's foam applicator pads
ONR 32 oz.
Shag Rags x 12
WW drying towel x 2

I think that's it...

Posted by: KD00LS

I hateeeeee you You'll like the wheel brush and shags. Let me know how the Lusso line is. Did you get a foam cannon yet?

Posted by: pektel

I've had a half tub of Lusso Oro for a while now. I really like the look. Durability is on the lower end, but I love applying LSP, so no big deal to me.

The multiples of Lusso Oro, Revitalizing Creme, and Black Wow are going to my dad for Christmas. Along with a 10 pack of shag rags, WW drying towel, ONR, and a Grit Guard. He better be damn happy!

Posted by: pektel

No foam cannon yet. It's on the list, though

I've had a set of 10 shag rags for a little while now. I really like them. They are ALMOST as nice as the super plush towels from Ben @ Rubbish Boys.

Posted by: KD00LS

Did you ever get a pressure washer?

Posted by: pektel

Nope, not yet. I need to pick up one, then get a foam lance from that guy over on DB. I've got a little time though, since I won't be able to use it til spring...

Lucky dad there. How do you like revitalizing creme? I got the amazing drier from Justin, works really well. A LOT better than my Cobra Waffle Weave. Oh and BTW I'm listening to the radio and they are talking about how busy the UPS guys are right now because of the work load. Now I feel like a piece of trash. Great.

Posted by: pektel

Haven't had the chance to use the revitalizing creme yet. Will try it on the next detail I do hopefully. I'm still trying to figure out what it compares to. I'm thinking it's similar to Lime Prime, since it has cleaners in it.

Have you tried Lime Prime Lite yet? Expensive isn't it? And it doesn't have abrasives in it correct?

Posted by: KD00LS

I also want to try out Glanz Wax. Have you heard anything bad about it?

Posted by: pektel

Yes, I've used it on a few panels on my LS, and it looks AMAZING. No abrasives in it. I got it in the OE bundle from Ben. I had wanted to try it for a while, and since I was getting OE anyways, and wanted to try out some towels and applicators, it was a perfect deal for me.

Posted by: pektel

I've only heard good things about glanz wax. It's on my list too.

Posted by: KD00LS

Your list is out of control. Haha, how much dinero have you spent?

Posted by: pektel

I find it's better if I don't figure it out

Posted by: pektel

I might have to change my screen name to Nica if my buying streak continues like this...

LOL, there's a good chance you've spent more than I have. I feel like this is a talk show. "Procrastinating Work with Pete and Kyle."

Posted by: pektel

Funny that you mention that. As I was reading it, the boss was getting on my case about finishing up a couple things

Posted by: pektel

[quote=KD00LS;455311]LOL, there's a good chance you've spent more than I have. [\QUOTE]

Dunno, but it's a lot so far. This is just the stuff in my basement. Doesn't include tools, polisher, and another nuba I have on order.

Posted by: KD00LS

Are your Menzerna polishes in the jug style containers? Weird, my FK425 came in like a milk style container. I see you snuck some stuff if on me without telling me. If you are using Duragloss for the wheels I think you were supposed to use Total Performance Polish and not the Marine Polish. That might be why you like PB wheel sealant better. What's your opinion on Aquawax against FK? Good to see you got a wool pad, I have 4 and I'm trying to figure out how effective they are on a PC.

Posted by: pektel

I just like the PB Sealant better since it repels brake dust better. The DG 501 just has more cleaners in it. The local Carquest didn't have 105. I may have them order me a bottle of it. I do have 111 that's not in the picture too.

I was wondering about wool pads on a RO too. My brother in law was recently fired from his mechanic's job, and had a rotary buffer from there that he "borrowed." Now he's keeping it. I asked him to check what model/brand it was. He called me up and said "It's a Makita 9-twenty two- 7 C". So, guess who now has a rotary?

Yeah, the 16 oz Menz polishes have always come in those jug style containers I think. I have IP, PO106FF, and FP. I just ordered a Menz Powergloss 32 oz. to get the free Top Inspection, a swissvax leather brush, and 2 of the European Red CCS Applicators. Someone needs to take my credit card away!

The nuba I have on order is Guruwax. I got him to send me a tub at a very reduced price for "testing" hehe...

Who's wax is it?

Posted by: pektel

Remember that porsche detail on DB, where the member (danponjican) didn't list the LSP? It's that one. I see he's bbeen kicked off other forums for promoting his products without paying the vendor membership, so I can't find a whole lot of information.

He said he wanted to get as close to Swissvax Mystery as he could.

Posted by: KD00LS

Ohhh mysterious. Well let me know how it turns out.

Posted by: pektel

Will do!

Here's his site:

www.detailinggurus.com

Posted by: KD00LS

The tub looks pretty similar to one of the Rubbish Boy's waxes. Also, their performance polishes look to be rebranded PB or CG, which are both rebranded of Warner Chemicals. Could be any of those. Cheap too, 10 bucks for 16oz.

Posted by: pektel

I thought the same thing when I saw the polishes. Even the same coloring as the PB.

but RB's OE is Ben's home made brew. So I think the wax is probably something different than a relabel. Hopefully, anyways.

Oh, and just got the UPS package. Want me to send the box back so you can re-use it ?

Posted by: HyeLifeLS

Damn men! Get a room already! My wheels are better than yours ha!

Posted by: HyeLifeLS

Lets see some pictures of clean LSs already

Posted by: pektel

the next day where it isn't 10 below or colder, I'll be out washing her up nice.

Plus, I've been itching to get the LS cleaned up with a fresh coat of OE so I can take some pics with my new (new to me) Canon Rebel XT.

Yep. That's a LOT of BWW... And pretty cool organizer! I'll have to see if a spray bottle will fit in each of the 4 compartments. Thanks for the extras!

Have you ever used that experiment bottle yet? Or you trying to get me to be the guinea pig?

I use it for a place to put the sponge and all that stuff so it doesn't touch the ground. No problem. See if you can fit the handle of the Swissvax brush in the holes. And yes your the Guinea pig. It's 33% of each product in there.

Justin is a great guy to deal with. He does excellent work as well. Hopefully he comes in his LT, it's a gorgeous truck.

Posted by: LsUnV2

so u know him eh?? ive wanted to tackle the buff polish on my car but have zero XP with it so i have been hesitant to try, also its hard to find a guy that you can trust will do a good job. I want my ls to look perfect, better than petes lol. my car is not bad it just has some swirls but i want a deep glossy shine that will make people jealous

He's the guy to call then. It will take some time to get complete swirl removal though.

Here's his truck

Posted by: pektel

Then Justin's your guy

Remember that you decide the level of correction. Depending on the depth of the scratches, he may have to remove a lot of clearcoat to get them all out. I prefer just removing swirls, and living with the rids, since I'll get more overall correction times out of it.

Of course, I did just purchase some 1500 and 2000 grit wet sanding paper, so watch out...

Posted by: LsUnV2

after lookin at those pics im wondering if i can modify that rearview camera setup to work on the ls. Also what do u mean take a while to remove the swirls??? like hours or multiple apps? they are not real bad but i dont like seeing them

Posted by: pektel

Hours. I took about 15 hours of just paint correction on my sister's black chev Blazer ZR2 for a wedding present for her. That specific detail was the one that made me want to step up to a rotary.

A 2 step polish/detail takes me all day (sun up to sun down). If doing the interior too, it may even take longer. Maybe the level of swirls you have can be taken out in 1 step. Polishing is not easy by any means. But a good wax won't do jack if it isn't over the top of a properly prepped surface.

Posted by: LsUnV2

what is the average price for something like this, keep in mind its not that bad about a 3.5 out of 10 but mostly on hood and trunk lid

Posted by: pektel

What I charge and what he charges are probably 2 different things. I'll leave it up to him to give you a price. If you'd like, you can pm me what his estimate was, and I'll give you my thoughts. I know it will be a fair price though.

Are you just looking at a strict exterior detail? No interior, engine, just paint?

Posted by: KD00LS

Here's Jason's price list.

.

Posted by: LsUnV2

just paint, im pretty good at the interior stuff. Ive actually had thoughts of my own detail business out here but i can tfind a good location. i also wanted to include custom wheels and custom mods. I would either hire a pro detailer or two, or just go take a class or something to get the hang of it, again location is key and there are none around. the shops around here mostly just wash and then spray wax lol. I went with my brother to pick his truck up one day and they were using spray wax. i chuckled when he said he paid 60 bucks. they have never even heard of a clay bar........but he still goes there like an idiot.

Posted by: KD00LS

Ask him to show you how to properly wash when he comes.

Hey!

I own Obsessive Detail. I do mobile detailing in the warmer months and detail out my house and buddys shop in the winter months.

For a car your size, you are looking at $300-$350 range to get swirls removed. I will also wash, claybar, and put on a wax or sealant for you. Windows, tires, and fenderwells are also included in the price.

I'm from Westville, what town are you in?

It used to be Westville Auto, now he moved it next to his house on Virginia Street. Rick Duprey is his name.

I've done a lot of vehicles from Catlin! You don't see too many people from the forums that are local!

Posted by: LsUnV2

i know that is why i am so surprised. as youve read its been hell finding a good detail guy, i would love to pick your brain while you work on my car if thats ok. would you consider coming to my place to do it? i have a heated garage so its all good. what about a discount for two cars?? i have 2 ls's

I could come to your place, usually if I'm doing paint correction I bring them back to my place. Really good lighting is very important when doing paint correction.

I could workout a deal for you. The final price really just comes down to how many hours I'm going to have in the detail. I would come look at the vehicles and give you an estimate first.

Rick only has one brother that I know of and he lives in Covington, his name is Lonnie. He owns Duprey Construction.

That sounds great!

I get more and more customers everyday from the 2 places that you mention. My prices are a lot higher than both of those places, but I have better equipment and products than they do. I do quite a bit of work up at Chateau Estates and Denville. I also have a deal setup with Walgreens accouting, I detail 1-2 days every week there when it is warm.

unreal ive never heard of you before. ya these shops around here are a joke at best. you will hear from me soon

Just got this in the mail. don't really know anything about it, except from the picture of this porsche finished with it. The first pic is of the wax I received:

Posted by: KD00LS

Oh boy that Porsche is hot. Are you gonna use ONR and apply this stuff soon?

Posted by: pektel

Dude, It's below zero here.

But that can't stop me for much longer. I brought my ONR, mf's, buckets, and OE to work with me today. I might try to get into my brother in law's insulated garage with a torpedo heater tonight after work. I want to aply OE one more time before I try out the guruwax.

Posted by: KD00LS

It sounds like you're trying to apply wax in some apocalyptic movie. "I am Detailer".

Posted by: pektel

it's on for tonight... cant' wait! Second coat of OE... (where's the drool emoticon?)

Posted by: pektel

Waiting...:

Posted by: pektel

And, some final pics. Just wax, mind you. No correction work until this spring.

Posted by: LsUnV2

looks great pete

Posted by: pektel

Thanks! It's really tough to get reflection shots on a light color paint like this. I was hoping to get a good hood reflection shot, since on the way to work this morning, I could only see the reflection of everything, and not my paint color at all.

I LOVE Rubbish Boys OE

im goona have justin polish my car and then prob order the portercable kit on his site, ive been u tubing and it seems fairly straight forward. id prob try on my silver ls first and move on from there. then i will really be sick, like u pete trying to make mans imperfections perfect

My recommendation is to NOT get 6.5" pads for it. Get 5.5" pads or smaller. The PC doesnt' have enough power to decently correct paint with a 6.5" pad. I have 5.5 and 4" pads for my PC

Posted by: LsUnV2

any brand pad in particular

Posted by: pektel

The only ones I've used so far are Lake Country pads.

3M makes excellent pads too, as does Meg's. I've never used them on a random orbital, though.

Posted by: KD00LS

Damn dude that looks good! Did you top with Aquawax or 425? Should be awesome when you do the full correction. I might get a Makita 9227 for Xmas...

Posted by: pektel

Thanks! No topper, just OE. I finally finished at 9:15 last night. OE takes forever to set up when it's that cold out.

Posted by: LsUnV2

hahahaha pete i hate you , your car looked so good that i just washed mine in 25 degree weather and just applied some meguires paste wax ,,, my arm hurts

Posted by: pektel

Thanks again!

I was in a heated garage last night, and used Optimum No Rinse for washing.

Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? If so, head in and pick up some Collinite 845. Awesome stuff for 14 bucks! Plus, you can apply it real quick when it's cold outside

You think your arm hurts? Try applying a wax BY HAND. No applicator. I mean, my fingers get sore when I give the girlfriend a backrub. This is like doing 5 in a row...

I took a couple breaks while applying it, actually.

You know you've got the bug when you can't bear the look of a dirty car, and run out to wash it in below freezing weather

That would be a wise choice. I'm going to be using one here pretty soon ona Ford F250 for a guy who took it to his truck first with a wool pad. Wants me to "undo what he did"... Told him I'd give it a shot. I think the only thing he's upset about is he didn't step down to a finishing polish. I let him know, but he's afraid to touch it again. So... he's paying me to fix it for him.

Posted by: LsUnV2

ya no , i went to carwash then came home to my heated garage as well lol,, will also be cooled this summer hahahahaa. what is no rinse, you jsut spray on and wipe off and it cleans grime off????

Posted by: pektel

Here you go. Check this thread. Explains it all:

http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/...r-how-311.html

Posted by: LsUnV2

sweet looks easy

Posted by: pektel

Yep... easier than washing your car the regular way!

Justin uses this method when he details, so you can see first hand the process when he comes to do your LS.

I really like it because I can do it in the heated garage, and not have to use a hose. What I do is go to the wash bay at the car wash first, pressure wash the bad parts, then drive home to the garage, and use the ONR.

It's also a versatile product, as in different dilutions it can be used as a clay lube, no rinse wash, and quick detailer.

Posted by: LsUnV2

pete you need your own detail shop,,,,,but detailing may be one of those things where you love doing it to your own car but its pure hell on others

Posted by: pektel

If there were enough of the proper clientele around here, I would be a full time detailer. I especially like doing a vehicle other than my own. It's a sense of accomplishment when I can see the turnaround.

In a perfect world, I'd own my own detail shop

Posted by: LsUnV2

move away and pursue your dream

Posted by: KD00LS

Yea I'm most likely going to pull a hood or two from the junkyard and go from there. Should be interesting. I'm gonna try and get the Makita through Phil on that sale for like 175.

Posted by: pektel

I didn't know Phil's sale included polishers/tools. Normally they don't.

Good move on the rotary!

Posted by: KD00LS

Oh hey Pete. In lieu of your ridiculous orders I was just stopping by to say to you, my good friend, to SUCK IT!

Just got a bunch of stuff for Xmas... and here we go.

Duragloss Total Performance Polish 105
Duragloss Marine RV Polish 501
Red CCS Euro Foam Hand Polish Applicator
Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine 32oz.
Pro Blend Bottle Proportioner Combo (Gallon and 32oz size)

Now how about I make you jealous for a change...

Makita 9227CX3
(Comes with backing plate and a couple pads and handles)

Ever hear of Werkstatt...
Acrylic Jett: Trigger
Carnauba Jett, 500 mL
Prime, 500 mL
3 Bottles with Trigger Sprayer, 500 mL
3 Bottles with Dispensing Cap, 500 mL
2 Prot Applicators

Can't wait to get nasty with this stuff.

Posted by: pektel

Nice order! Where's the pics?

I just got 2 of the euro red ccs applicators in my recent order as well. Looking forward to hearing how you like the DG 105. Let me know the difference from just 501, to after the 105. I may have to order a bottle from my local carquest...

You've wanted to try Werkstatt trigger for a while. I can see why, since I've never read a bad review. Seems to be awesome stuff.

You'll love ONR. Although I'm sure you're going to do what I did, and wish you had just ordered a Gallon

The last items you listed are just empty bottles, right? Where do you order them from?

Congrats!

I just placed another order from Justin. Getting some more shags, a pack of all purpose mf's to replace some of the ones that were destroyed by the steel wool incident, and a gallon of Optimum Power Clean. Should have that one by Tuesday.

Here's a small order that I got on wednesday from Phil. I didn't know the Swissvax leather brush was so small:

Posted by: KD00LS

Just ordered it all last night. I can draw you a picture of what it would look like sitting on a table but that would be no fun. Yeah I just ordered a bunch of empty bottles(from Werkstatt). If they are the same quality as the ones that the products come in, they are a hell of a deal. $1.50 a piece. Apparently 105 is a lot more durable than 501, just with less cleaning properties. I almost ordered that leather brush as well, I need more research. I'll probably be using the 105 exclusively for the wheels, maybe I'll try it on a panel compared to Werkstatt.

Posted by: pektel

Did I forget to say I have an antique bottle of DG 111? At the local carquest a couple months ago, and was browsing their DG stuff, when I say an old box containing 111. I asked if they had any new ones, since I wanted to give it a try, but didn't want to buy an ancient product. The guy just gave me the old bottle for free. I'm afraid to try it. I don't think I will. I'll probably just toss it.

What do you know about sealant shelf life?

I know you should try it on your GF's car so we don't have to worry. This box? http://www.autogeek.net/duragloss-cl...at-polish.html

Nope, not that box. I'll take a picture of it when I get home this afternoon.

Haha nice, try out that concoction I sent you on hers. Does she work with you or do something else?

Posted by: pektel

Are you kidding? We've been together for like 3 or 4 years now. If we were never away from each other, we probably would've broken up after 3 or 4 months.

That's the secret to making relationships work. Get together to eat, sleep, f*ck, then stay the hell out of each other's way. That's what to do

But to answer your question; no, she doesn't work with me. She's a nurse.

Posted by: pektel

On another note, Where did you place your order for your werkstatt stuff?

Posted by: KD00LS

Make sure to check out ALL of the stuff, the app pads and all that are pretty cheap. Especially the bottles.

Posted by: pektel

That's what I was just doing. However, I had to leave the site, because you've seen what can happen if I window shop (the previous huge order).

Posted by: KD00LS

I'll give it like..... 5 hours before you order stuff.

Posted by: pektel

Haha... you're probably right.

Actually, I WAS just going to order from Phil again. I can't believe I was going to spend 30 bucks just to see what the freebie was...

Back to the werkstat site I go. Although I haven't really researched it much. Do I need all 3 steps? (prime, acrylic, carnauba)? Is prime just a pre-wax cleaner, with some abrasives in it?

Posted by: KD00LS

Well Jeff believes in a two step. You definitely can do a three step if you decide to add Carnuaba as well. There are certain different types of Prime if you scroll down for the different kinds of LSPs, but I got regular prime because it adheres to both Carnuaba and Acrylic, even though it probably won't matter that much anyway, I just did it out of principle. Apparently Satin Prot is good, haven't heard about the QD gloss but I have enough anyway.

Posted by: pektel

Yeah, I have my gallon of FK425, some DG AW, and a gallon of Meg's Last Touch. I'm set for a while on QD

EDIT: So, do you know what you can put under Acrylic Jett trigger? I'm wondering if I could use Dodo Lime Prime Lite. Or lusso revitalizing creme.

I did just order a bottle of DG105 from my carquest. Couldn't pass it up for 9 bucks shipped!

Posted by: KD00LS

You probably can, I don't see a problem there. Both sprays have the same durability as any other non spray product, it is not a QD by any means, its a true sealant or wax.

Posted by: pektel

Well, I know sometimes there can be bonding issues over certain prewax cleaners. Which if that's the case, maybe I'll just use EZ creme glaze under it.

By the description they give of the Prime, it claims to do what a claybar does... is that what you got from the description?

In case you're wondering, yes I'm going to order it within 5 hours

Posted by: KD00LS

I mean it removes a slight slight slight layer of clear coat because it is abrasive, but it won't do nearly as much as a claybar. It basically just levels slightly and cleans for optimum bonding.

Posted by: KD00LS

Well, my friend has an 08 Jetta and we tried to wax it today but the damn water froze on the friggin car before we could get to it. I can't wait for ONR.

Posted by: pektel

Just FYI, ONR froze on my car when it got really cold out. I tried to do too much at once, though. That being said, it's a helll of a lot easier than using a hose. I love my ONR

Posted by: KD00LS

Were you doing a panel at a time or the whole car then drying?

Posted by: pektel

I was towards the end. I did the trunk, then the rear bumper before drying. The ONR on the trunk froze up by the time I was finished washing the bumper. It would've been fine if I had stuck to one panel at a time.

Posted by: KD00LS

My rotary and everything else is coming in today. I'll take pictures if my mom's camera is working.

Posted by: pektel

awesome. Let me know how you like the AJT. i didn't "pull the trigger" on it yet...

Haha wow, more self control than I would have figured...

Posted by: pektel

Yeah, you and me both. The only reason is I have so much stuff to try out, and the winter is killing me since I can't use it! AT least not as much as I'd like.

Posted by: Obsessive Detail

Can't wait to see how you like the rotary. Getting the hood to practice on is a great idea. If you have any questions once you get started, feel free to ask.

Posted by: KD00LS

I pulled it out of the box yesterday and turned it on. Quite intimidating. I also got all of my stuff from Jeff's Werkstatt today, the extra bottles look like a great quality product, and cheaply priced.

Posted by: KD00LS

Well I hope your Christmas was good. I used the bottle from Jeff's Werkstatt to store half of the polish for now, comes with a squeeze cap. When I was filling them up, I noticed that Final Finish and Intensive Paste were a lot milkier/liquid than the High Gloss Polish. Did you notice this as well?

Posted by: pektel

Yeah, the IP is really "watery". Since this is my first time seeing them, I don't know if that's the way they are suposed to be or not.

I noticed as soon as I was shaking the jugs (hehe). The HGP was a lot harder to shake up than the other 2.

Posted by: JWerner2

I wanted a gift card for Christmas so I could buy detailing stuff.

Instead I got a $250 GC for Spoilers Auto Spa

Women just don't get it !

Posted by: pektel

Maybe you can purchase product from them...

The stuff I got that was detailing related was a Bissell Little Green Machine from my mom(for shampooing carpets/floor mats) and a Brinkmann Dual Krypton light (from the girlfriend's mom) for paint inspection. I said Dual Xenon, but got Krypton. Hopefully it works.

Posted by: JWerner2

Some stuff yeah.

Im just gunna use it for interior details and/or depending on the cost of that other non-detail related maintenance services.

$250 worth of oil changes is cool.

Watch your nav screen if you have one. Whatever money you would have spent on all that maintenance, spend it on detailing stuff.

Posted by: JWerner2

Im not to worried about it. I was mostly cracking wise since it was something I requested from her.

We still have to get up with the rest of her family that couldn't make it yesterday and mine as well and I always just say give me gift cards.

Posted by: KD00LS

Made a pre-soak type thing last night when I was bored. Take a look here...
http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/...tion-7100.html

Posted by: pektel

WTF? Unstickied? Looks like I'll be bumping this thread to the top every 20 minutes...

Posted by: KD00LS

I filled two up with FK425 (100% and 50% dilution) and I decided to get a little weird on the third one. The bottles are 16.9oz size, so I filled it with about 10-12oz of water. I was originally going to dilute FK425 to about 25% for clay lube, but I figured since it was my last bottle I'd try something goofy, considering I don't have any product like this. I wanted to go with a dwelling pre-wash approach, aimed specifically at the rear fenders considering they accumulate the most filth, especially in the winter.

I wound up mixing in the bottle...(approximately)
10.9oz filtered water
5oz of Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss
1oz of Optimum No Rinse

It came out to a pretty basic green color with some decent clinging ability as you would normally find in a liquid/gel mixture. I sprayed it on the size of the sink and it slid down pretty slowly, leaving a nice slime trail behind it that I was looking for. My plan for this will be to spray the mixture a couple inches above the mass of the filth so it leaves a nice coverage all the way down and loosen up the grime. I can always spray more above the mixture as I go to slide down if it didn't reach the bottom.

Sooner or later I'll do a little before and after test using the mixture, which I'll be calling Diluted Optimum Chemical Guys Citrus No Rinse Wash and Gloss (I'm up for new name suggestions). Hopefully it would be a nice alternative to a more expensive pre wash such as P21S Total Auto Wash.

I figure...

At the best rate, CWG costs 18.95(without shipping) containing 128oz of product.
So that's ~ $0.15 an oz.

At the best rate, ONR costs about 39.99(without shipping) containing 128oz of product.
So that's ~ $0.31 an oz.

At my size bottle, I used approximately 5oz CWG costing ~ $0.75 and 1oz ONR costing ~$0.31. In total ,and if you really just feel like throwing $0.25 in for distilled water, the total cost of the product comes to... $1.31 per 16.9oz of product, equating to about $0.08 per oz of product after all dilution. Noticing that they both have citrus cleaning agents...

Now, you have P21S Total Auto Wash in bulk for 62.99 at 169.1oz(5L), equating to ~$0.37oz.

So, per 16.9oz size at best bulk rate for each product....
TAW costs $6.25
DOCGCNRWG costs $1.31 as previously calculated

And at the 5L size
DOCGCNRWG costs $13.53

Now I've never used TAW so I'm probably going to do a photo test with my concoction to check it's cleaning ability and then you guys can be the judge. Has anyone tried to replace TAW with a less expensive alternative? Has anyone used degreaser or APC in their blend? Citrust Wash and Clear could also be used as an alternative to CWG. Please feel free to give constructive criticism on anything (dilutions, products, mathematics). At this price you could even potentially double the amount of product in the mix (making it stick better and stronger) and still make out like a bandit.

Pete, I'm glad to announce that I found an audio shop that randomly carries most of the Surf City Garage line. I picked up Road Trip Grime Destroyer, Pacific Blue Wash and Wax, and Beyond Steel Wheel Cleaner. I used them and I like them all a lot. Obviously I need to work with them more to make an accurate opinion.

I saw your reviews on db. I'll probably buy some of the wheel cleaner! YOu know I already have the Beyond Black Tire Pro.

Just got my Makita 9227! just applied a fresh coat of wax yesterday though, so I'll hold out on trying it out for a couple weeks. I'm diggin this new wax I got. Guru Wax. Looks-wise, it's a real winner. real sharp reflections. I can't speak for durability yet, though.

Oh, and FYI, ONR gallons for 29.99! at www.detailedimage.com

Oh, and what pads/backing plate are you using? Did you drop the cash on a 3m bp and some 3m UK pads? Or are you using the standard 6.5" hook and loop that came with it, with 6.5" lake country pads?

I saw you said you used one 6.5" PFW. Just wondering if you've used anything else yet.

I just have the regular backing plate right now, seems to work fine but the smaller 5.5 pads just won't work on it obviously. I wanna try those UK product but they are expensive, at least the backing plate is.

I was thinking about buying one from Carlos for 45 bucks. I wonder if his prices are Canadian dollars, since that's where he's from. I should ask him, because if so, I think I found my next purchase!

Yea yea you and your friggin free 9227. Your like Kramer, you just fall ass backwards into free stuff. I think one of the main buying points for those backing plates is that the foam is a safety for spoilers and all that on slip up. Seriously though, with a wool pad and HGP I went over my hood for like 30 minutes and I'm pressed to find a swirl. I think the LS has relatively soft clear. It turned out pretty glossy but I can achieve a lot more if I went over it with a white pad and HGP again.

I wish I fell ass backwards and got free detailing stuff...

Werner, weren't you the one who was raving about Zymol stuff? Which products of theirs do you use? I remember HD Cleanse, and that's it. Which LSP of their's do you use, if any?

Posted by: JWerner2

I use the Leather cleaner/conditioner, the cleaner wax, cream wax and some different hand application pads and cloths.

I even use the cleaner wax on my DVD's and CD's the kids get.

Posted by: pektel

FYI, the cleaner wax (the blue bottle you can buy at Walmart and Target) is made by Turtle Wax.

Which cream wax?

maybe I should put together a little "sample" kit for you...

Posted by: JWerner2

Really? Can you provide info? Thats pretty disappointing cause I really dont like turtle wax at all!

EDIT: Oh its Manufactured by Turtle wax but its a Zymol product huh?

Whats that supposed to mean

I still love the stuff! I am going with others this spring that have been mentioned before though.

I just use the regular blue cream wax, nothing special like some of the other stuff they have. I would like to try out some of the other stuff but $$$$$!

I still only got to using it once.

I found this discussion while doing a search for the Zymol deal. I mentioned this forum before and I still have to say these people are NUTS!

The last post really made me laugh!

Posted by: JWerner2

Im really into this now if you cant tell!

Now from what I gather its just distributed through Turtle Wax so the Zymol name can be found at low costs in stores like Target and Wal-Mart.

Posted by: pektel

I never did the research on it, but it looks like plenty of others have! Good info.

One Z product I'd really like to try is their Field Glaze. I hear it's excellent.

Posted by: JWerner2

Thanks. I found more and it is kind of a draw but the ones that say it is a Turtle Wax product mostly disapprove of it anyway. ( Biased )

No matter what it is designed and engineered by the people at Zymol so it in my eyes is Zymol. For the products that sit along side it and have a greater price tag it blows them out of the water no matter what those freaks on the Meguires forum say.

I got my bottle a while ago at Target with a yellow price cut tag on it. I dont remember what I payed anymore but it was dirt cheap!

Kyle, here's some pictures of that old DG111 bottle that I got at Carquest. I was in there asking if they had a new bottle of it, since the only one on the shelf was this ancient one. So they ordered a new one to put on the shelf, and just gave me this one for free. Obviously they weren't losing anything, as it was already marked all the way down to 1.99. I most likely will just empty the bottle, and use it for polish or something, but thought it was kinda cool to have the old bottle/packaging

Posted by: KD00LS

Haha that is old as hell. I'd just save it as a decoration piece. Try and auction it off at DB.

Posted by: pektel

That's a good idea! hehe

Posted by: pektel

Just got off the phone with DG. The bottle is from one of their first production runs of DG 111. The tip for the guy on the phone was the "Light" in "Duragloss Light" on the box. Also, because it's a 2 piece box, dates it about 20 years old

He told me it's a collector's item! He has one in their conference room on display, kind of a "progression from where they started to where they are now" display.

Oh, and even though I told I didn't pay anything for this one, he is still sending me a new bottle of 111.

You're right, Kyle. For some reason, I do fall ass backwards into detailing stuff!

Posted by: KD00LS

That's actually pretty damn cool. How the hell do you have something in stock for 20 years? You should get that thing like encased or framed or something, I'm sure your gf wouldn't break up with you... Haha nah but seriously, if you put it on display with the box and the bottle seperate itd be pretty cool looking. Sounds like a winter project to me.
