Rack and Pinion.... 11hrs YIKES???

Ok I just got word from my mechanic, my new mechanic

, that I have two leaks. One leak is from my pressure line from the pump to the rack. The other leak he says is coming from my rack and pinion. Fluid is coming from the actual boot. Now since Lincoln decided to run the line around the a/c compressor and all the way around to the drivers side, a bad set up in my opinion, its obviously I need to get them done together.

Where I need your input is...... 11 hrs?? This is what makes the bill outrageous. I know the guy won’t cut me a deal on the hours because I just started using him. But come on I would think 7 maybe 8 max. He just put a pump in because I though the leak was coming from there. Really the line has a compressed fitting in it and it is leaking onto the belt and slinging onto the power steering pump. Also anyone knows where to get cheaper but quality parts. I was looking at acdelco and some others. Fast parts network was high as always too.

Thanks for any input or suggestion. Oh and Lincolns still rule!!! Luxury and Power is a great mix!

replacing a rack on a FWD conti (I assume yours is 88 or newer, therefore qualifying), can very well be a very long job. you pretty much need to lower the rear of the front subframe/engine cradle in order to do it.

Yes I have a 96 and I know its a lot of labor but 11 seems high. I thought dropping out the catalytic converter and the subframe and then reinstalling wouldn't take that long. And the new hose should be easy to fix because the rack will be fully exposed.

Do you have any suggestions on parts?? Thanks again for any and all input.
