Ok, so I've got a remote starter that I bought from hellvez and it's been working great, until today. I go out to start it and using the remote it doesn't do anything, so maybe I pressed the wrong button I thought. I got in and used the key, and it started fine, I went to pick up my gf from work and when we went to get in, nothing. Didn't start at all, doesn't even crank like its trying to start. I tried a few variations of using the remote, using the key, taking the battery cables off, etc and ended up taking out "the brain" of the starter to bypass that completely ( i talked to the installer and thats what they said to do) now its sitting at work with both battery cables taken off and no brain in and it STILL wont start. It will go into the "run" position and you can listen to the radio, play with the windows, etc but it wont start at all, there are a few clicks under the hood as well.....point blank, is my starter fried?
And if so, Jamie how much do you have them for? And where the hell is it so I can replace it? Or should I just pay someone to install it?

If I understand right it wont start with the auto starter or the key right ?
Sounds like what mine did when the selonid went out.
You can buy them at rockauto.
Its a PITA to take the starter out...some say drop the exhaust I didnt but it sucked.
The top bolt sucks.
Check for power at starter before you pull it out.

It's bolted to the front of the transmission, very close to the passenger side catalytic converter.

Well I've decided if it is the starter I'll just pay to get it done. If I buy a new starter is the solenoid included?
Posted by: ford nut
Yep, but check for power at starter first !
Get one of these http://www.amazon.com/Circuit-Tester.../dp/B0000AX9RS
You can buy them at any xyz auto place.
Have your girl try to start it and check for power at starter.

From above the hood where would I be looking to use the circuit tester?
Posted by: ford nut
Under the car Pass side at the starter... check were the power goes into the starter It has a red plastic cover on it I believe.

Just because I know I can return it and I had a decent credit anyway I picked up a starter just in case. I just got it towed here and he said no chance its the starter. He recommended that I bring it to a really good electrical place here in RI. I'm going to check all of the fuses and what not tonight, but if nothing is blown what could be the problem? I can still work everything else in the car except that when I try to start theres this really light clicking sound coming from under the hood

Here is what happened to me check out this thread and like I said check power at starter it will tell you if its bad...if you have power at starter starter bad....... no power post it someone will help.
Well on a positive, I checked the high current fuse box and found out I was missing the fuse for my horn (horn works woohoo) and the fuse for the speed control was missing too, so go me.
On the negative, it still doesn't start. I'll be at autozone first thing tomorrow morning to buy that tester, if it has power, i'll be ripping that sob out of there and replacing it. If my starter doesn't have power wtf could it be?
I'm feeling like you ford nut, I'm hating this car right now

The positive cable comes right off the battery to the starter solenoid, which is mounted on the starter. Check the connection there, if there is a bad or corroded connection clean it up and make sure it's tight. Also, there is a small wire that attaches to the solenoid, this is the trigger wire for the solenoid, coming from the ignition. Make sure that one is clean and tight also.

So I've got everything I need to get this done, and its pouring outside. I tried to go under there and do it but its too damn wet, murphys law in full effect

OK so when I got home I PB'd the thing really well. Did a few errans, 2 hours later pb'd it some more....now it was decent out so I went under and just spent 45 minutes trying to get it out, nothing. I ended up stripping the lowest bolt so idk how the hell to get that out, and neither of the other two so much as made a budge, I'm stumped now, it looks simple enough to change once I get this thing out. What can I do now? I don't see how I can get that stripped bolt out

This the exhaust or the or one of the starter bolts?
Posted by: ford nut
Striped bolt ? I hope its the exhaust....but it dont sound like it.
You know the bolts are metric right ?
Try a box end wrench maybe you get lucky...I think you can get one in if its a bottom starter bolt.
Posted by: The Rev
Its the lower starter bolt. I was using a metric (don't remember size) ratchet but it wasn't working so well, so I switched to a 10mm wrench and the circle end fit really well. After letting the pb sit for a few hours i came out and soaked it again, waited a half hr or so and then I thought i had it. I ended up making the bolt pretty much screwed. It doesn't look like I can but it out w/ a dremel so I've given up on it for now. I'm trying to find someone to come to my house and do it if anyone wants to haha
Don't give up there is allways a way to get a bolt out. If that dont work they also have wrenchs that grip rounded off head's.

oof 103 i'll just see how much itll cost to have a mech. do it but thanks
Posted by: JMiles_T
Be thankful it's the bottom bolt instead of that top @#$%er.
Sears has stripped bolt removing kits. One that will work for you should be $30-$40.
I have one that looks similar to this.

I'm going to scoop up a set of those anyway, just because my mark is from New England haha. It's at the shop now thanks for everyones help, while I was under there I found another problem though, see topic :"Is this why I hear that sound?"
