My mark VIII that I just bought has the blend door actuator problem. I was looking around and found some posts that you can just push the grey arm up to get some heat. Well I did that, and its still blowing full cold. When I push up on it, I can feel and hear the flap moviing, and if I let go, it flops back down. I wedged a roll of electrical tape in between the arm and the dashboard to hold the arm up, but still full cold coming out. Anyone ever have this problem, and is there a way I can temporarily get some heat until I get the time to take the dashboard out of the car to replace the actuator? Thanks.

i use a zip-tie to hold the flap in place on full heat all winter, then in spring i snap it off and go back to all cold. Sort of hacker but it gets the job done

That's the thing though, moving the rod doesn't get me heat! What could cause that?

why not change it, the part is less then 50 and a few hours labor.

I will eventually, I just don't have the time right now. I wanted to know if there was a way I could get some heat temporarily until I get a chance to fix it right. I found the post saying to just move the grey arm, but that didn't work, and I'm wondering why.

the rod that comes off of the gray arm could be broken off the upper black arm not allowing the second door to move, just a thought

Well that rod is sitting in the glove compartment cause it came off completely. So both of them have to move to get any heat then? That explains it, thanks. Looks like no heat until I get a chance to pull the dash then.

I live in NJ. Today was beautiful, but last week it was kind of cold and rainy, so it would have been nice to have heat, especially after it gets dark. I don't NEED it at this point, which is why I'm not about to pull the dash just yet with summer coming, but it would have been nice to be able to just push on something under the dash and get heat. Oh and as for AC, I never use AC, I can't stand the artificial feeling cold air. Even when it's 100+ outside, I would rather just have the windows opened. In fact, before this car, I only ever owned one car with working AC, and I owned that car for almost 2 years before I got curious enough about whether the AC worked or not to turn it on.
