telescopic repair problem

Well i lowered my steering colum to manually adjust the telscopic part of my steering wheel cause it was stuck all the way inwards. I removed all the torx bits to access the controls. I began to adjust the bolt and the steering wheels began to come out as it should have. I tried to mount it back up to the 4 bolts that hold it to the car and they were about 1.5" behind the mounting holes for the tele/up/down.. I put it back to were it was and it was still the same distance away from the mounting bolts.

What the hell did i do? Did i do something wrong? Or am i just forgetting something?

Telescopic steering on a Mark8?

I know my LS had that, but that's a different forum....

can you post a Pic?

its the top red circle that you turn to extend the wheel manually. you'll see the 4 mounting holes that you use to mount it to the car. They are 1.5" further back now.

does gen 1 have telescopic? thats where you cna push it in and out right? i thought mine just lowers and raises?

gen 2 has telescope and mine doesnt work either. you can hear the motor kinda like it wants to pull it back in but its already there. will not come out at all. id love to manually set it out an inch or two. or just fix it the legit way.

This is a symptom of a bad Potentiometer (position sensor) F7LZ-14A605-AA $26 if you can still get them.

Sometimes if you gently lift on the steering wheel (from the bottom) it will start to work.
