I found one in a 95 cougar with a 4.6 sohc will this one work?

Posted by: 98LSC32V

You want a 98+ 4r70w, don't bother with anything else.

Posted by: 32vmach

I know they are better I just don't have the funds till summer I need a tranny now I am going to use the cougar
(if it will fit) one till I can get one built. Will the cougar one fit? PLease help have to pull it in the morning.

Posted by: 98LSC32V

Yes the Cougar 4r70w will fit, what year is your Mark VIII?

Posted by: jamie97lsc

i have 3 of them you could take your pic, 100 bucks any of them all work fine were pulled from driving mark's but unless you want to drive to florida this weekend i dont think i'd be much help!!!

Thanks guys i have a 94 black/black leather with coil overs and that is it as far as I know bought it last week. I am going to get the cougar trans it has 91000 and he said I can get it for $100 plus core or $150 without I am going to keep my trans so I can build it as time and money allow.

Posted by: kustomizingkid

I would personally send that tranny in as a core. If you want to build anything to handle some abuse you will want to go witha 98+ tranny.

Posted by: 32vmach

Are the cases different on the 98+ transmissions if not then I am going to use mine I plan on putting whole new guts in it. And for $50 I would rather keep mine it isn't slipping bad and is still usable if the one out of the cougar messes up. Thanks for all th info.

Posted by: 32vmach

My mark has 135646 I got it for $1700 cause the trans was slipping. He startedout at $3000 it also needs new suspension b ushings. I thought for $1700 it was alright.

Then main difference is a mechanical diode in the gear set. Think of it as a one way clutch.

Just for fun; http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny...on/index.shtml

I knew the internals were different Thats why I was going to just use the case. Thanks for the link it was helpful.

Posted by: Markviiiedrea

You can use older ones if you wan't from any t-bird, couger or even a vic I think.
They just have the older craper style accumulater pistons. if you get a trans from anything other then a mark make sure you use a TQ converter from a mark. the couger one wont work.

Posted by: kustomizingkid

The 98+ trannies are oeverall just better. All the internals have been improved. Most builders won't use anything older than a 96 case to do a performance build either, don't know why that is exactly.

Posted by: Markviiiedrea

plus the newer ones come with a deep sump pan to keep the tranny from starving it self

May have to swap solenoids from 94 trans to Cougar trans. Not sure but I would check it out. Save you from putting the old one back in if you burn up the Cougar trans.

Thanks Guys you all have saved me alot of money and trouble.
