My Mark finally let me down...Tripple A to the rescue!

So I was just bragging at Club 516 in Oldbridge about how my Mark was about the best used car I had pretty much evey had. I picked it up off an Engineer (136k) for $1000 cause the Check Engine light was on and inspection was due. I shut off the cell and it passed inspection.

Just turned (188k) yesterday and I was picking on a Mopar guy at the bar cause his Durango was giving him crap at much less miles. Well my Mark must have over heard me talking to him cause when I went to fire it up a 1:30am it just cranked and cranked?!

Called AAA and they towed it to my house and this morning I hit it with some Either to see if it was the fuel pump that may have quit? Well Either sprayed and nothing? Didn't even try to kick over. Threw the Batt charger on it cause it was low from all the cranking last night. I ran a OBDII scan on it and aside from my IMRC code it had Misfire Detected? It was idling very bad for the last 2 days as in surging when you stop for a light but when you take off it was smooth again. That and my MPG has dropped from the norm of 19.5 to 16.5

So I am thinking maybe crank trigger? Not all that sure at this point and have to go dig into it now

On the other hand I just picked up another 96' Engine last month with 90k on the clock and have been planing on swapping it in. This may be the engine swap time now cause I really don't want to put any money into the old engine anyway.

I have about the same mileage on my 93 and have just experienced pretty much the same scenario. My plugs were soaked in gas, changed them and it started right up. The next day it wouldn't start, plugs were soaked again, dried them off and the car started. I'm getting 30 pounds for the fuel pressure in the line while it's running. I let it sit overnight and it started right up, no problem. I'm letting her set for a couple of days and see if it happens again. I would be interested in hearing more if you come across the cause of your misery.

First let me say I am glad I got an Alpine Blackbird GPS

I let the car sit over night got my can of Either out and gave it a quick squirt this morn and absolutely nothing. No hick up or anything at all like it was trying to start. I will go out a bit later and pull a plug to see if it's wet but at the same time I want to lay it there and see if it sparks?

I'm thinking the crank trigger craped out? I do want to see what the fuel pressure is like cause I don't want to put my spare engine in and have not fixed the reason for the no start.

My only gripe right now is I wanted to put in a set of Kooks headers when I did the engine swap but I don't have the money for that right now. I also wanted to throw in a higher stall converter and at the same time I put in my shift kit. No money at present for a converter either

I wouldn't change the engine just because of a possible bad sensor. Besides it would give you time to save up for those headers & stall.

Yeah but the timing chains are stretched beyond what I call comfortable limits. When I have the original engine out I am going to tear it down for a rebuild. I already have a set of Manley rods for it and can pick what compression I want during the rebuild. Just a matter of finding room for the exhaust to come forward for either two TDO4's or a larger single Turbo for it.

So the engine that is going in is just going to keep the engine bay warm till I have rebuilt the original. It will be nice to have a 90k engine in and not hear all the tapping and rattling in the morning. That and I have been way to lazy about putting in the 4:10 trak lock center that I have lying here done and waiting to go in.
