Check Engine?!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Dark_Majesty_06

I just went to cash my check on lunch.. car was acting fine.. I stopped and turned it off for gas.. went in and paid.. come back out and my check engine light it on?! WTH? I don't know.. should I take it to O'reiley and have them check the codes.. or just unplug my battery and let it reset?

Posted by: unity

Get the codes, then reset battery and see if they come back. Ya never know.

Posted by: Psychostang

Check engine lights do not reset on OBDII vehicles, by disconnecting the battery. You must clear the code with a scan tool.

did you forget to put your gas cap back on or forget to tighten it.
obd2 cars will "cry" when that happens.

Gas cap check.. there.. tight.. check.. Guess i'll make a trip to o'rileys after work.. man.. everyday... something else.. lol.. its like the car is testing me.. lol...

getting used to be getting paid at noon on friday.. and being broke after 5 o'clock that same nite.. lol. Ran a tester on it and only one code poped up... PO402- "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Exessive Detected"
Kid at o'riley told me its my egr valve.. he said usually its not even that.. it's just dirty or clogged up.. he said to clean it and clean my TB really, really well.. get all the deposit out of there.. I'm so proud.. my first car this good and only one code has been thrown so far... So is that really what I need to do? I mean my MPG is poohie.. only getting around 19.5 average for city...

whats your CEL?

havet looked for it on mine but im pretty sure its on the back of the intake near the TB. it will have 2 hoses going to it coming off the egr pipe.

egr helps with nox, so if your state does nox emissions get the dfpe fixed since it works with it as well. it should help with your gas as well

+2 DPFE, ford has TSB's out there saying any egr flow codes to replace the DPFE first. this will fix the code almost every time (i had one where a mouse ate some wires) theres no telling how many people come to my work with autozone egr valves, insisting that the kid at autozone said it needs this so they demand for us to install it and amazingly it doesn't fix it, then they are mad when we tell them it this cheep little sensor that we will throw on for just a few bucks, and if they would of listened to us they could of returned the valve and used that money for the sensor and been done with it

same here.

i finally was able to drill it into my writers head to convince the customer to buy the diag.

just last week i had an 05 expedition that an outside shop said had a failed injector. convinced the customer to buy the diag. turns out it needed a plug (had pzt2f) they decided to buy all 8 since they were updated (yay for me )

i still get them every once in a while insisting to install the parts autozone said it needed.....or now aamco with their "free diag"
