Upper Control Arms MKVIII=T-Bird?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I saw this asked on another forum and nobody had answered,wondering if any body knows the answer to this question. The Mark VIII control arm looks identical to the MN12 T-Birds except for the ball stud mount for the ride height sensor. If you have a coil conversion you obviously don't need the stud and there is about $30 difference in price. Does anybody know if the other dimensions and geometry are correct to be able to run the T-Bird arms on a MKVIII?

Ride height sensor spot on mark viii is the only difference, they will bolt up directly and yes with a coil over mark arms are not neccesary, even tho most argue mark viiis are mn12s

I was at Rich's house the other night, (Mespock) and he mentioned that! I think it is going to work fine, but maybe PM him, as I know he will know-

mark is an FN10 though many parts are shared with the MN12

The Mark VIII's are $83.14 at Advance. Thats an expensive little ball on there.

I agree that little ball is expensive... But if you are ordering I always order one for a 96 T-Bird

why would that be, the gen 1 and gen 2 under the sheet metal are the same exact chassis from 93-98 the only thing that makes it a gen 1 and gen two are some body cnages, not chassis changes all marks are mn12's

Where did you get that info? Everywhere i have read says all Mark VIIIs were on FN-10. The Thunderbird is on the MN-12 and its not the same platform as a Mark, it is smaller.

The whole gen change didnt make sense as far as chassis (cause there wasnt) but i always concidered them all to be mn12s and still do but maybe because of all the mixed opinions thats what they came up with, and i also do recall a magazine (dont remember which) refered to the mark as an mn12, thats what i beleive regardless but everyone beleives differently

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_FN10_platform

2006 ford motorsports catalog also lists the mark viii alone under the FN10 chassis code and the t-bird/cougar together under the MN12 platform.

FN=full size north america
MN=mid size north america

If I recall correctly the fn-10 chassis is slightly longer.

Does it make a difference with 3.8, 3.8SC or a 4.6?
