Hi all.. I'm about to buy a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII.. it has 202,000 miles on it.. it seems strong.. but my question is.. how strong are these motors in thier older days.. will I have to be rebuilding it soon.. is it still going to be dependable enough for me to get back and fourth to work? I'm guessing it wont be a 10th as fast as you guys with only half the miles... it seems to have been kept in good condition.. i have talked the guy down to 2900.. its a buy here pay here.. so of course cars are over priced.. but my only question is.. thats alot of miles.. usually.. how many miles are these cars good for? Any answer will be much appreciated.

The motors themselves are very durable as long they are maintained. There are quite a few 200k+ cars running original motors. Cars are good for as many miles as you are willing to repair them for, and to what extent your willing to go with the repairs.

To be honest.. I've always wanted one.. since i first seen it featured in muscle mustang and fast fords... A bunch of people running 4.6 cobra motors were racing them in the article.. I loved the look of them.. and thier performance.. plus the fact a cobra motor would drop in.. Honestly tho.. I'm looking for something thats not going to do me wrong... a car with some get up and go... a good sounding exhaust.. plenty of room... and plenty of after market parts( such a rebuild kits for the motor, air suspension parts, and body parts.) I understand these cars are expensive to repair.. but I'm willing to take this chance.. Have you heard of a certain mile.. that the cars hit.. and start laying down on people? Lastly... in anyone of you guys eyes.. what would a 2,900 dollar mark look and perform like?

Edit: Also.. Kelly blue book.. rated my cars description between 2500 and 3,000... so i'm getting it in the upper fair condition.. i'm assuming.. 10 disk changer, Sun roof... interior is Fair.. not great and not bad.. just shows wear and needs cleaned.. carpet is good.. body is good.. no flaws but 1 dent in the hood the size of a baseball.. but no rust or paint chipping has occured. Motor is fantastically clean.. no oil leaks.. no belt wear.. everything is physically clean as well... tires are in okay condition. Air suspension seems to be presenting no problem at this time. Broken parts include.. Am/fm radio and you have to manually push on the sun roof to open it.. thats it.. Even the phone inside the console still works... Headlights work good.. thier blue.. so i'm assuming HID?

Do you know if its an LSC?

Posted by: Dark_Majesty_06

Sorry thats the only thing I forgot to say.. no LSC model... i'm guessing just a mere base model.. it doesn't have the JBL audio stuff in it either.. all just basic. Oh.. other broken part.. the driver said mirror.. has a crack in the mirror part.. and the driver side lock button doesn't work.

For $2,900 bux & 202,000 miles I would stay away from it. The price is very inflated for those miles.

Posted by: sbcaprice305

maybe for 1500. I'd continue to look. Check craigslist. Where are you from?

Posted by: mark0101

keep looking, that car is price high

Posted by: lscmkviii

Yeah and those lights are probly not HIDs if its not an LSC. Unless someone changed them.

Posted by: Calabrio

It's certainly inflated noting the condition and the lack of work done to it to date... high engine miles don't worry me like high mileage on the transmission or the suspension.

248xxx and still running strong drive her about 2000-2500 miles a week
YYYEEEEAAAHHH BBBAAAABAAAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOHOOO!!!!

Posted by: kustomizingkid

Why do you drive that much?

Posted by: jamie97lsc

i just bought a 93 one owner today with 75k on it for 1500, now granted the guy needed 1500 to hurry and get a truck for his construction biz, but over 200k and the car is worth about 800 bucks. dont buy it, specially a buy here pay here get screwed here. my buddy mike bought a 93 at the auction with 43k original miles for 1600 bucks and the car is damn near mint. look around more man, if you have never owned a mark VIII, you dont want one with 200k on it, you will be fixing it every other day.

Posted by: Dark_Majesty_06

Alright.. well i've defintly got some answers here.. I haven't owned a mark before.. always just wanted one.. Yeah.. I've tried getting him to come down off the price... thats the one thing I was hoping someone would mention.. wheather or not It would have to be worked on daily or semi daily...

I took it for a hard test drive... many shoots up to 100 from 35... did fine... couple power breaks... did fine... one thing that worried me.. after all the hard driving.. in town.. the car went to shift into overdrive.. or drive.. don't remember which one.. and it felt like a slip to me... the motor kinda revved just for 3-5 seconds.. then went into gear.. but that was defintly a slip commin from the tranny... and that scared me...

The only dang thing that gets me is.. I have money down on the car... 100 bucks.. but i mean still.. thats 100 i'll loose.. because i signed a stupid waved for him to hold it for me for 2 weeks.. so the money is non-refundable.... silly me...

Posted by: chickenviii

id pass. that many miles isnt worth it, you will get the car and hate it due to all the repairs you will be doing to it, and as for a dent in the hood? gen 1 markviii's have a fiberglass hood so its not gonna pop out like your thinking might need a new hood. id loose the 100 bux and figure your saving thousands on not buying it

Posted by: Dark_Majesty_06

ya..your right.. its just the only one i've found over here... and i wanted it.. but i think i'm going to take a loss and loose the 100 bucks... I'm going to really, really, really think about it... so thanks alot for your help.. everything else is up to me now... maybe i'll do a little more shopping today and see if i can't find another one... if nothing else.. talk to the guy about my concerns.. and tell him i want it for 1,900 ... i can't wait to see the look on his face... : 0

I wouldn't pay over $1000 for that car. You'll find one with less miles for that price and be very happy with the car.

As for miles don't worry too much as the engine well serviced will last

My 93 Mark VIII has 221,000 on the ticker and runs smooth. My daughter, in college, uses it as her daily driver.

But I wouldn't pay that much for a car with that many miles on it, and being a plain jane.

I bet the guys think your daughter is awesome! "Man, that chick drives a mark!!! You know that's the same engine in the cobra right?" (cause everyone thinks the mark has a cobra engine)

Anyway, I'm far too young still to be worrying about kids and what not, but I'd send my daughter off to college driving a beat to hell station wagon... anything to turn the guys away!!!

Hey so um how olds your daughter? jk dude haha

Posted by: Dark_Majesty_06

Lol... ya... that is really awesome... I'm really hoping I can get ahold of a nice mark with "easily" driven miles on it... maybe one thats never had the tracton controll taken off... lol.. that would be nice. Anyways... ya... thier hard to come by here in my part of missourri... so i'll have to start searching else where... So someone said it didn't have HID's... i'm guessing the brights are just blue halogens though.. did they come stock with the color blue brights... or did someone put them in this car?
