i'm installing my cai and i didn't quite understand the part where i plug in the AIT sensor. do i use the old sensor plug from my old intake and put it on this one and if so how do i take it off the old one without damaging it? any help would be much appreciated

I have a K&N FIPK that came with detail installation instructions. I not sure what an AIT sensor is, on mine the only shared parts are the mass air sensor and the crank case vent elbow.

is that just the air filter? i'm talking about the whole pipe from lsk. and my car is a first gen, maybe it's different?

Air filter, intake tube, heat shield and mounting hardware.

IAT (intake air temperature) sensor
I believe it simply pulls straight back out. On my intake tube - I have a hole for the IAT to insert into - and a rubber grommet to make it a snug fit.

Gcwimmer, you have a Gen2 which has the IATS integrated into the slot-in MAF electronics. The OP has a Gen1 which has a separate IATS.
Just follow what Quik LS said. Your IATS is pressure fitted in the grommet that holds it into the intake tube. Just pull it straight out with a twisting motion and it will pop out. Reinsert it into the other CAI tube the same way.
