i want to make an appointment for auto zone to test my car to see if any codes pop up, i think a coil is going. For people who have gone to auto zone what did you tell them. I know they do the test for free, but what do you say, test my car, get the codes and then leave??????

Pretty much, yeah.

you dont have to make an appointment, just go in and ask. They'll usually find the code and tell you what it is. I usually humor them and go back inside, then make some excuse about how i'll buy the parts as soon as I get the money, or during this season: "when it gets warmer"

I used to be a manager at AutoZone... just go in and say you need the codes checked. Simple as that. No obligation to buy... I never got mad when people didn't buy parts after... not like its money in my pocket. lol

alright, easy as that huh. now i gotta find a local auto zone, how long does it usually take, 5 mins.

they plug it in, press a button, and it tells em. The longest part to wait is if theres a line inside. Its policy to help all customers at the parts counter before going out for an OBD scan.

yeah, and they should give you a print out of the code and that codes description.

They may even let you take the OBD scanner out to your car yourself. I go in there so much thats what they do for me! Never got a print out, just read the scanner myself... Not gonna repost replies 3 to 6...

You can get the codes read at just about any auto parts store, I've even heard of Wal-mart doing it. (only the ones with the auto center of course)
So you could to to Checker, Schucks, Pep Boys, O'Reillys, Kragen, Auto Zone, Napa, etc... Just a small list to get you started.

around my way, pep boys and napa charge to read codes.
