I was just curious if you can change the shifter in a 97's mark... I like the design but the chrome's starting to crack on the thumb button doohicky... any suggestions?... I was thinkin of just takin it off and painting it black... but don't know yet

yes you can change it they are very easy to take off you can even take the button out to paint it or get a new one

so how do you get shifter off to remove/replace the button?

push down on the plastic sleeve at the bottom of the shifter, easier if you put in nuetral first, you slide the sleeve down and will see two torques screws, remove them but dont drop them they are very short, then pull up on shifter handle, keep your thumb on the button because as you slide the knob up the button will want to shoot out, there is a springs behind it, dont lose that either!
