Fuel Filter...

just curious is there anything different between different brands of fuel filters?... I'm gonna change mine out sometime soon... I have a 97' mark... doubt there can be that much variance... just curious thanks

FRAM is looked down upon from some filters, like air and especially oil. For that reason I use anything but FRAM for filters.

I went with motorcraft, it was only a dollar more then purlator. I still have yet to install it though.

Fram fuel filters and air filters are good quality.

Fram Sux... won't use them... Hell think about it Wal-Mart sells them LOL... but that's just the first reason not to use them...

I also use Wix...

what does that prove mespock, walmart also sells mobil oil, one of the top oils in the industry. just because walmart carries something doesnt mean its poor quality. i dont see anything wrong with fram, i use fram filters or motor craft. i have yet to see something bad happen from using a fram filter of any kind!

Well from a person who use to work for wal-mart they were ordered to remove the lables on all oil boxes... Labels read 2nds. This was the stuff that didn't make the grade to be sold to auto supply stores.

You can use fram if you want.. I guess it's a matter of opinion. I've been told to stay away from Wal-Mart oil... but use it if you want...

I'll spend the extra money and buy my oil elsewhere. I've been told by mechanics to avoid Fram.. people I trust. I've been told that the quality of Fram is marginal.

What have you purchased at Wal-Mart that had quality? I buy at Wal-Mart when I don't care about quality and only want cheap... But I guess that's a matter of opinion...

Guess I just feel my car's worth the few extra bucks...

My Staples store that I work for just lost a whole lot of business to walmart since they opened in the area. They come to Staples for customer service, advice and support and buy the sh!t at walmart. I tend to stay away from anything off brand from walmart because of their quality. I have the mobil 1 oil filter and oil from them and haven't seen a problem. It was crazy cheap too so I guess I could believe your complaint, but that'd be an ethics nightmare to sell things under a reputable name when its not making the grade. Any reason why? I assume that mobil 1 full synthetic that couldn't make the cut would still be better than conventional, if anyone still uses that haha

fram air filters are horrible. as are their oil filters. 2 out of 3 and i wouldnt take my chances.

morotrcraft or purolator only for me.

I work at a camera/photography store and I know that what he's sayin is right... Walmart does sell inferior products... there's been a few times when people have bought cameras from there and come to us when they have a problem to find out that they purchased a refurbished product... specially with their printers... that's how they can get the price so low... they get a really good deal cause it doesnt meet up with the company's specks... I only buy a few things there... haven't been to one for a couple years now though... but yeah they'll kill a town in they want to... back home there's a town that used to have all these ma and pop stores... now it's just walmart... sux... it's turning into a ghost town... yet people keep going there cause it's cheap... crappy but cheap

Walmart also sells motorcraft filters. The oil they sell is the same Mobil 1 as sold in any other store.

Just because Wal-mart is cheaper does not mean that its always less quality. Some of the stuff the sell is but wal-mart basically demands a price with their suppliers and if they don't get it they will no longer carry their product. They basically bully their customer so they can have the lower price.

As much as I hate Wal-Mart and will not join the general trailer trash that shops there (and I am not stereotyping, come see the stores up here)

lol I do think they do help keep prices low by keeping other retailers in check.

Well Rich hates Walmart because he knows I sell stuff to Walmart.

All kidding aside, the Walmart private label brand called Super Tech is a very good filter (made by Champion). I have heard that they switch or are partly sourcing from Mexico now and have switched the internal pressure relief valve from a rubber one to a harder plastic to metal seal.

Anyway, it has good filtering properties without impeding flow. And flow is what you are looking for. Oil filtering is not all about how small the micron filtering is.

I buy my Autolites there, I buy the EverStart car batteries at Walmart, (made by Johnson Controls, btw, best in the business of batteries).

I also pick up the Berryman B12 fuel injector cleaner, better than Lucas, STP, Techron or Slick50, again, imho.

What else, assorted waxes ( I like the new Turtle Wax ICE), no residue, easy on/off and doesn't stain the moldings.

I'm trying to sell Walmart my oil additive which is the best in the world, bar none. We'll see how that goes. We guarantee a 2-3% increase in fuel economy. No iffs ands or butts. I have some before/after dynos coming up that I'll share with you lugs so you can see the hp increase yourself.

We do cryo engine/brake (rotors) parts, ultra high-end ceramic bearings, and container after container of microfiber towels. So I like to think I know enough about filters and additives to be dangerous.

Anyway, Walmart is not the boogeyman. They are trying to offer the best products at the best prices.

Trust me, there is so much competition at Walmart from vendors trying to get in there, that if you do make the cut, chances are pretty good your products aren't garbage. Don't get me wrong, they are not in the business of offering the very best at any price. There are in the business of offering the best value. Sometimes that means that they pass on the really, really good stuff because the market (their customer) won't pay the price. But I wouldn't go so far as to say they offer 'D' grade products. They offer 'B' stuff that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and would be hard for any 'regular joe' to justify the additional expense of getting the 'A'.

We have an 'A' oil additive, but, in order to reach the economies of scale to service our customers that expect the 'A' grade stuff, we need the volume to get the purchasing power like the other heavyweights out there have. Then those savings can go into advertising, sponsorships, etc to grow the business and get the name out there.
