Yeah!!! Mespock's gone Air Tools!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Wife just moved up in the I'll keep you for a lot longer....

Bought me an air compressor for Valentines Day.... She sent my good friend Danny to go pick one out.. Now we just need to find a spot in Danny's garage to put it.

Danny has all the air tools already so we are set to go.. Now I need a project.

Now if she'll buy me a lift and build me a bigger garage...

Sweet! I wish I had air tools. My friend in Manty has then, makes work so easy!

Posted by: Sal329

Very nice. That is a keeper you have there.

Life just is not complete without a full assortment of pneumatic tools. I even have a grease gun (sounds really lazy, but you'd be surprised how much easier it is to grease those hard to reach fittings when you only need one hand to run the gun)!

What's about 40 miles between hard to take off nuts..

I've been using only an electric impac wrench for that past few years. Could onld do the easy to get at bolts. Now I can get at many more...

Looking also for a paint gun... Never know when I'll need to paint those red 1/4 panels. Hope that never has to happen...

The chisel with a punch point is a "Liberator". Front end rebuilds in half.

What size gal/hp?

Need a big one to paint. Bad thing about the big ones is you can't easilytake them anywhere.

I got the biggest yet portable one I could get, best thing I did.

Its built garages, shingled roofs, clad trim, sprays wall texture....and then goes back into the garage corner for the car stuff when needed.

Posted by: kustomizingkid

I'm lucky enough to have air tools, but no heat. Air tools work terrible in the cold.

Heating my garage was positively the best thing I ever did to make working on cars more fun.

Most air tools don't take to much to operate, some take more.

Painting guns take alot to keep the pressure up.

<----Runs a 250,000 BTU salamander; will heat up the insulated garage to about 75 degrees from 10 degrees in... oh, 10-15 minutes...

Kinda overkill. I'm assumming you just demand heat it.

I heat mine 24/7 all winter. I'm only using 14,075 BTU unit.

I live just north of Tampa, FL. The last thing I need to do is "heat" the garage any more than it is. NOw, if you want to package and store up some of that "cool air", I'll take some come may thru nov.....LOL

I have my garage Air Conditioned also. That I do not run 24/7 though, just when I want it cool.

yeah well im glad you dont need heat, i am west of tampa, and my shop is a block building with a rubber roof and cement floor and it gets cold as hell in there, like tonight, i have a space heater i put behind a fan to blow warm air around the shop, its cold here tonight, upper 40's and inside i had it up to 70. florida isnt hot all year round, i need heat in the winter here, not for long, and only a few times, but man it still gets cold here.
congrats on the compressor, i have tons of air tools for all sorts of jobs, but i still find wrenches in my hand more than air tools, i always get tangled in the air hose, or it gets caught on something, air hoses and extension cords piss me off to no end, so i still do it the old fashioned way 8 times out of 10!!

Posted by: kustomizingkid

I break stuff when I use air tools too much, mainly air ratchets.

I have a kerosene tube heater, after running non stop for four hours or so my garage was roughly 50 degrees, cost way too much to run it.

Oh yeah... only when I'm workin out there... When I get my HUGE garage with lift... then I'll throw in radiant heating!

Posted by: kustomizingkid

When I build my shop I'm getting in floor heat, no doubt about it in my mind.

Now you're talking!!!!!

Posted by: NateRW21

I have wet dreams about my future garage...

Posted by: 21stcenturygadgetguy

Man Rich, if my MK8 wouldnt have been in the shop already, we could have broke those in on my Spring Conversion!! Maybe we can mount the new Wheels? (See other thread--Yup, I'm getting them!)

So, if we brings parts to the beach party.... Lucky dog!

Does she have a single sister?

Posted by: pepperman

It's starting to sound like a mod meet.

Posted by: bufordtpisser

It's not the pressure that is important for running a paint gun, but the CFM's. Unless you get an HVLP sprayer. Since I used to be a mechanic, I still have all of my tolls as well as compressors. Now if I just had a garage. I do all my work in the drive, and only in warmer weather. This year is the year for the garage. I need a place to work on the Bikes, Quads, and the trucks.

Well right now the comperssor is still in the box. We are trying to find the place to store it.

We are thinking of putting it in Danny's Basement then running the hose out to the garage...

Hey next time you pass a gas station steal the air hose LOL...

Posted by: mespock

Yes I just sent her your e-mail address...

heated driveway... that would be nice!!! And as i recall, it doesn't take that much to keep it clear; doesn't need to be 80 degrees!

Umm.. chicken... you'd never leave the floor... but keep your beer off the ground.. would warm up to fast..

I had my concrete all redone 4years ago, garage floor included. Should of set the radiant up at that time but just wasn't really thinking straight. If I want a warm floor I just turn it up the night before I work and it does warm the concrete up some. I keep it 45-48 in there at all times just turning it up when I'm working on something. The floor takes awhile to warm up but overall for what I spent to heat it I'm really happy.

You have forced-air heating or infrared radiant?

Umm, I think its both. Its a 220 ceiling mounted heater. Keep in mind my garage is only 1 1/2 car. Ceiling is R25 insulated, walls are R13 and its drywalled. Not completely done with all the wall ins and drywall but all the high stuff where heat trys to escape is done. It works very well.

I didn't want a gas unit with having to run the gas line and exhaust vent...more work than I really needed to do to get the heat I wanted. I installed this unit in about 4hrs with my electrical panel on the other side of the house than my garage most time was running the wire there.

Posted by: NateRW21

Oh okay electric heat!! I guess that would do a pretty good job on the size garage with the insulation you've got!!

bet it was cheaper than a gas model too!!

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

Looks just like this but different manufacturer. To be honest I think even though its a different manufacturer, I think its the same unit.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

I paid $239 on sale normally $279ish at Nothern Equipment. This year I saw them on sale for $199....

Posted by: NateRW21

well, you're still better off than with gas... most gas units START at $350, plus you have to wire it up with power, and feed the SOB with a gas line.

Once I get my big garage I'm getting a gas infrared unit... that way it doesn't blow dust around, and they retain heat a bit better when you open the garage door. (although they take longer to initially warm up)

Posted by: chickenviii

my dad has a 2 car attached garage and a 2.5 unattached garage out back, thats heated, cooled, big 300 gal air compressor, and a eng hoist coming out of the ceiling, so yup driving fords thats where i spent my childhood lol. as for how it was heated i dunno it was gas and about 2' by 2' by 6-7' tall, it had a fan and blew crap everywhere, but it was better in jan than my friends driveway!!
