Picked up a set of 4.30's :)

Just ordered a set of 4.30's for the Linc to start getting it ready again for the spring!
I'll be doing some trans mods and cooler to go with this, so hopefully it all goes well.
Just need to find a trac-lock carrier/housing now, and talk to someone about a chip for this to match the gears and I'm set!

Don't forget to change your driveshaft over.

your gonna burn your wings dude!

your hiway RPMS will be TOO HIGH and your timeslips will read TOO LOW.

I think there is a fairy tale someplace that describes what is about to happen to you!!!

(joking grin)

Posted by: Icarus

I have a balanced one piece shaft sitting in my other cars trunk waiting to go in, so hopefully I won't run into problems with any vibrations.
I'm not too worried about the hiway rpm as 90%+ of my driving is city, with the odd trip here and there. I can always take it easy on the longer trips and enjoy the scenery. There's nothing wrong with fairy tales coming true

mmm... the gears showed up today
The FRPP Trac Lok carrier shows up tomorrow!
This is going to be agonizing waiting to get this stuff in!

Posted by: Icarus

I picked up the 8.8 FRPP carrier today
Just need to organize the chip, waiting on a few more trans parts, and get the pumpkin pulled once it warms up a lil (it's -25*C with the windchill tonight, lol...) and take it down to the guy doing the gear install!

Posted by: Icarus

Dropped the pumpkin off today to have the new gears, track-lok, bearings etc installed
I ended up having to drop the back half of the exhaust just to get at one friggin bolt thou! It came apart pretty well, thanks in large part to having a pretty well rust free car
I ended up bringing it to Steeda in Milton to do the install. They quoted me a good price and I was happy with their answers etc to all my questions.
I'm still a bit worried about the balanced one piece shaft I have, but it had zero vibrations before, so I'm crossing my fingers and not spending anything more (lol...) till I get it in in case I need to order one.
I've been talking with Steeda too about tuning it, but not sure how well they know these cars. I'm a bit worried about some of their answers to my questions so probably will go with ? it looks like.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Let us know how the install goes and any problems you have. Good luck!

Pumpkin is back in and the SpeedCal is wired up. I haven't done any trans stuff yet. Need to take it out for a drive tomorrow to see how it runs so far. I think without a chip I'll have some wacky shift points, but I should be able to tell if there is any vibes etc

where did you buy your install kit? I have some 4.10's I took out of a used ranger axle we had wrecked at the shop. I also have a trac lok unit that has been sitting in the garage for about a year now. Also does anybody know where i could get a metal matrix driveshaft? for some reason denny's and dynotech can no longer make them.

Posted by: Icarus

Unless you find someone that has a MMX shaft lying around, I've not found anyone thats making them right now.
I bought the install kit from a Ford dealer that sells the FRPP stuff. You can get the same kits from Summit Racing, some Mustang stores/shops, etc too.
With the IRS you need two kits, the M-4210-B if you need the pinion gear and carrier bearings too (-A if you dont,) and the M-4413-A for the IRS axle bearings and seals.
