00 LS KEY? only have 1.. need a few more! help?

ok. first off i have a 00 lincoln v8
i bought the car and only have 1 key.
i have read countless forums and internet reviews. if you have 1 key you have to go to ford and have them reprogram a 2nd key for you and the 3/4th you can do yourself.

but come on. bmw, benz ect. if you have 1 key you can program it but a series of open the door and off and on. there has to be a way to program a key for the lincoln without going to the dealer?

ALSO.. i have a 00 i know what year i have will this key work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...3 50020551020

if anyone knows.

hmmm Im intersted as well.

Posted by: gcwimmer

That is correct you need the scanner tool used by Ford.

As long as you are name dropping Lexus charges about $300 for a key and program.

No the 2nd gen LS uses a different Key and remote from the 1st gen.

so they advertise that they will program it for you.... can they do that?

i mean . my dad has a 05 BMW and his friday gave him a key because he only had 1 and he took it to some guy and he open the door a few times and turned it off and on and boom key works and rolls the windows down and stuff.. i had a 02 mr2 spyder guy did it the same way..... i mean it's weird that nobody knows how to do it. there has to be a way.... TOMM i will get more into this because my dad knows someone that works at a chevy/cadillac but they also service "lincoln's" ... so the head mech my dad knows i am gonna drive there tomm and see what he has to say about this. might have a sticky

Wrong post, not related, sorry.

What does "his friday" mean?

Posted by: pektel

I'm assuming you're just being sarcastic, but just in case you're not:

looks like he missed the "t" button... it makes sense - "this friday"

Posted by: lseguy

Actually I wasnt.

"this friday gave him a key".

Ok..now it makes sense. I think?

Posted by: uknowmehfo

OOPS!!! .... "his friend gave him a key...." lol... i was typing but talking to someone in the room about friday.

Posted by: lseguy

now THAT makes sense. :-)

Is it just the programming that the dealer rapes you with? If so, can I just get one key programmed and then buy one or two more, get them cut and then program myself?

Also, Lexus is different from a regular key. Our keys are like a normal door key (except two sided). Lexus keys have the grooves on the inside of the key.

Also, I have a valet key, can I use that for programming? I'd rather not have to pay for programming if I can do it myself with a regular key and the valet key.

To my knowledge it is a chip in the plastic that needs to be matched up to the ignition. The dealer needs to do it, I have no idea how much it costs, but am pretty sure all Fords are the same way as we had to have our new company truck key "programed" also... there is no way around it.

If you have two keys, you can program your own keys.

Are you asking me or telling me? AS I am pretty sure you cannot I am sure someone will chime in.

Yes you can program your own keys if you have 2 already. Just insert the first working key, turn the car on, turn off, remove key. Insert second working key, turn the car on, turn off remove key. Insert NEW key turn on (takes a few seconds for your vehicle to store the new key info and start), turn off. All there is to it.

I have 2 extra keys stored at my house, just in case i lose the one I currently use. That way, I always have 2 keys to program more.

Yes if it is already programmed to your LS.

alot of cars out there have the transponder inside the key that matches with the ign. and tells the car it's the right key and to crank it.. BUT for toyota and BMW dont know other because i have not fooled with them. you do need any keys to program it to the IGN if you have a transponder key. it's a LONG series of opening the door closing it, turning car on then off then on ect. and then BOOM key works. there are 2 methods! ALWAYS! the "scanner tool that is just easy and hooks up and boom 100 and something to program" AND " series of dumb sh-t to get it to work"... right now i contacted my dad's friend that is in the service department. i am waiting on him to get back with me. he works for a caddy dealership but they service lincoln and hopefully he can get me something on this. if not i will look into it a little more.

Doesn't the Valet key have something special to prevent it from opening the trunk and glovebox?

The teeth are not cut as deep as regular key, same pattern not as deep.

Posted by: AndrewCoja

Ok, I guess I will get some more keys cut then. Anyone know how expensive it is to get a new fob?

You can find them on EBay, about $10 for a remote and $20 for blank key.

Posted by: pektel
