MK VIII manual trans/fuel rail ?s

A little new here and have a few questions. Currently I'm the proud owner of a 93 Mark VIII. The car has been smashed in the front and I'm not going to rebuild it, however; I am going to use the driveline and third member setup in a Cobra kit car. I was wondering if anyone has converted the early Mark VIII with the Ford EEC-IV pcm to manual trans? If you have what mods did you have to do to keep the PCM from not allowing the engine to start and not set codes?

Second question: Does anyone know if the fuel rails/injectors from a Mustang Cobra 96-98 can be used on the MK VIII intake setup? I don't want to convert to the Cobra intake for cost purposes but I would like to have the larger rail look with the current intake.

Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.

Well Hi Dave,
Ever since these cars were first introduced and guys saw how well they perfromed many have given thought to a 4 or 5 speed convversion. I have never actually seen one but guys that have say they are "botch" jobs. A rebuilt 4R70w tranny with the right mods and chip will beat a 4/5 speed anyway and cost much much less. I cant tell ya anything about the rails. I'm sure someone will chime in.

Manual swaps have been done succesfully. Mike had a 94 that ran fine with a 5 speed in it. For getting the ecu to coperate you could get in contact with Lonnie from Blue Oval Chips, he is a knowledgable tuner and has a pretty awesome Mark VIII himself.

hes putting the motor and stuff from what i gather into a "cobra kit car" wouldnt this be no different then putting mark 8 driveline stuffin into say a mustang GT 96 to have like a pseudo mustang cobra? can't you just use a cobra ECU? 4v motor, cobra ecu T45? what else would you need

I could be way off, but from what i read theres a guy on here who did a 5 speed swap into a markviii and i believe he used the stock ecu??? for all i know you have to switch to a cobra ecu because they were setup for manual where as all mark viii's are auto of course. The pcm (again im nooo expert) module that goes on the j3 connector only modifyes parameters on the ecu, its not a completely new "chip"... so im assuming you cant just reflash it for manual, but if you can? it should be as easy as getting any other thing on the "chip" because then its just a software issue.

You can't put a cobra mustang ecu into a Mark VIII. There are many many differences. First off Cobra Stangs started in 96, which means it's obd 2, a 93-95 Mark is obd 1. This is just a glaring example of why it won't work, there are many others.

A custom tunes is the only real option.

I never understood why people think manuals are "faster" than autos. I cant even count how many Porches I have passed or that Viper I played "chess" on the highway with! (that was fun!!!)

I understand that an automatic (even if converted to push button shift) is used in a lot of quarter mile drag cars, however; I am not building a quarter mile drag car. I am building a 65 Shelby Cobra replica and the manual transmission is a must for me since I want to keep the cockpit as close to the orginal as possible. Besides it's mainly a fun thing since I have plenty of auto trans vehicles as it is. I just want to be able to row my own for a change of pace when taking the car out for a spin. The Cobra PCM can be put into an early Mark VIII it just takes a lot of wiring to do. I know plenty of Cobra Replica guys that have PCM's from newer cars spliced into their older engine/fuel injection harness. Yes it is a pain but with patience and the EVTMs from the "cars" your putting together it can be done. My biggest question is still out there....Is there anyone who has done the swap and did the original pcm accept the swap or did it set MIL on and refuse to start. I realize the manual lever position sensor would have to be bypassed so the pcm "thinks" it's in park. Beyond that is there anything elese that would keep the pcm from allowing the engine to run?

Well I built my engine harness from scratch. Its doable, but I did not do the entire car.
