Gotta love this cold

So this wonderful -6 degree weather has brought out the best of the car

I have this horriable squeeking noise in my front end. It is quite possibly the worst noise I have ever heard out of the front end of a car. It's in the passenger side and it's louder when I turn left than it is when I go right. Any Ideas?

I kinda think its the lower ball joint because the upper was just changed 5 months ago.

On the plus side the doors weren't frozen, which has been a bad problem for me, and it did start right up today with out even trying hard. :-D

Thanks in advance

Likely the lower ball joint. The colder weather brought on a creaking in my 98F150 lower passenger side and a clunking on my lower drivers side all in the same day oddly a few weeks back when this colder stuff started.

It's a bushing, either lower air/coil strut mount, control arm, or tension strut rod. If it does it when you turn then I would say tension strut. Do you feel vibration the steering wheel when braking? Another sign of bad strut rod bushings.

If you bounce the front end by hand can you hear it? That would eliminate air/coil strut mount, and/or control arm

Ball joints don't squeek, they chirp/crunch/clunk, pop.

No vibration, I drove it 110 miles the other day, just fine. The only thing with braking is when I brake it pulls to the right really bad. I already replaced the brake caliper and that didnt fix it.

Last week when this started we bounced it in the garage and it wasnt making any noise. When I started it up to take it out it started making noise when I was moving it accross the drive.

Ill go out and try bouncing it in a lil bit to see if it makes any noise

Im not too sure about that! I had THREE squeak really bad. Oddly, they stop squeaking the week before separation! Oh, I miss those fin times!

One was on my current Mark VIII. I even had it inspected and they saw nothing wrong. Every turn sounding like metal on metal and any lateral movement caused it to squeak. The SAME day it was inspected, bam!

Then my beater Mark, a 95, lost both but did not care. Pile of crap that thing was! lol

They sure do. Not squeak I would say more like a crrrrreeeeeeeeeek. My 1st 96 Mark did this and it was absolutely the lower ball joint. My truck I just fixed a few weeks ago, more of a subtle creek but it was the lower.

I'm not saying other things can't be it but the ball joints do make that noise surprizingly.

How long do you guys think I could drive on a bad one? Because it's going to be 2 weeks before I can get it fixed.

The car goes in sunday and I don't get it back till tues. or wed. to get some paint fixed that the body shop messed up.

The earliest I could get it fixed is that following weekend.

Really hard to say but when they make that noise they usually are pretty bad and I wouldn't go far on them just to be safe...

I agree to a ball joint creaking. Personally never heard one squeak.

Only way to know for sure is to throw a floor jack under LCA, jack it up, do visual of all parts considered, pry up/down on tire, any movement is a loose ball joint.

SOunds like a old barn door close/opening. Happened to me last winter in the marquis, ended up be the upper bj. Now i have a clunk on the same side.
