SCCA Mark VIII???

Has anyone ever taken their car to a scca event? I know it is very hard to make our car to go through cones but I think it would be fun to try. Are there any easy cheep mods to make our cars corner better?

Cheap get a 1.5 lowered spring conversion kit. It will help greatly.

Big difference... I noticed when I converted my 94.

I guess there are more suspension mods....

F the stupid coil springs.

Addco sway bars front and rear are the ticket, lowered stance, 18 series tires for less sidewall flex plus as wide a tire as you can fit. 255's are a good start.

I have two 98's. One set up stock, one with bars, lowered, 18's and 255's. No comparison. Completely different cars imho. One feels like a couch, one feels like a bed of nails.

Also cheap to do is upgrade the brakes with ceramic-metallic pads and install new brake lines to get rid of the squishy pedal.

The biggest weakness is the body construction. That is one of the main reasons the car stopped being made. But as far as weight, we have one of the most sophisticated setups going.

Aluminum block and heads. Aluminum IRS rear end.

I can list tons of stuff.

The car ONLY weighs 3800 lbs. Compare that figure to a lot of cars, rustangs, etc, heck even Bimmers and Mercedes. Those cars are pigs compared to what we have.

Get your car set up and I'll go racing with you anywhere anywhere you want. Nothing like seeing the facial expressions of guys that can't believe when they get spanked.

monstermark covered most of it.

stock aspect tires are #1 weakness. way too much sidewall rollover. weakness 2 is the body stiffness. there is none.

i did mine with just a sensor drop. it was decent but the open rear diff did make things difficult. after i did the j-mod it was pointless as it would just be all over the place from the 1-2 shift.

as for the weight...its about the same as an awd 3000gt so thats not a problem. just needs stiffer suspension, tires, and 1 hell of a rollcage to fix the wet noodle feeling.

I was surfing the net yesterday and it just popped into my mind so I went to the Milwaukee area scca and I saw a lot more events than I expected in the area. When I got my first mark my dad and I talked lots of trash on who had the faster car. (he has a '95 mustang GT, auto, full exhaust) So we went down to Dagrove in May and I KILLED him! Now all he ever says is "Ya but my mustang can corner" We are planing on going to Miller park for the slalom course they set up there in the summer and compare times. I am not talking any trash before this race because I know stangs can corner but I will try to get some bars before then to make it closer.

It is a convertible so it weighs about the same.

Has anybody tried to add subframe connectors or anything else to stiffen up the chassis?

I have. Visit my photo albums for a peek of various bracing.

They all help. One of the most dramatic was the front subframe/engine cradle braces. Made the front end feel like it was on rails. The rear subframe braces helped, but were less dramatic. Bilstein shocks in the rear and shorter sway bar links have been thrown in as well. The ASHAM9 module is great for the fine tuning of the air suspension on the fly.

I still have a few suspension mods to get done. Sway bar(s) and wheels/tires are on the slowly shrinking list. Once those are done, I may take the '93 to a local event for some lessons on why bigger brakes are needed.

nope. all 4.6 dohc are aluminum block.

Not all 4.6 DOHC engines are aluminum. The 03/04 Cobra 'terminator' block is Iron. All of the Mark VIII blocks were aluminum though.

And to make the info completely accurate, all Mark VIII blocks are aluminum with steel sleeves in the cylinders.
