Radio locks and compass won't work at first

My 1998 Lincoln Continental starts up fine in the morning...but the radio, auto locks and "compass" on the mirror don't always start up immediately. Once I've been on the road for a few minutes, they "kick in" and start working. Anyone experience this or know why?
