2001 ABS Wheel Sensor Check

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My 2001 Continental recently began brake pedal shuddering with ABS hum occassionally under light braking and even going around sharp, long right hand turns with no braking. Not all the time, maybe 10%. No ABS light warnings or traction control warnings. Did a little troubleshooting and it appears my control module and motor are fine and a Ford buddy assures me it's an ABS wheel speed sensor. Is there a way to determine which wheel it is? The front and rear uses a different sensor, and at $75 a piece I don't want to guess where it might be. It FEELS like it's only the front left that's trying to brake when this situation occurs, but since that's where I'm sitting it's hard to tell. Thanks.

get it on a dirt road and make the abs go active, Look and see which wheel tore the dirt up. ABS on the conti's is louder than all hell, it will go clunk, clunk, clunk, you won't be able to hear anything over it. Are you sure it's not a warped rotor?

Defiantly not a warped rotor, got fresh ones about 3000 miles ago. Also, the ABS noise is unmistakable. I have ABS disabled right now and she's smooth as silk, it's just annoying looking at the ABS light and having to reset the "Traction Control" display from having the fuse pulled. The dirt road idea is a good one, but it only does it occasionally so I'd be driving a while.
