i just bought a 1989 lincoln t c , the owner of the car passed away and the son sold it to me , i need some help please .. the fuel gage light flashes on and off showing empty ever thou i have fuel in it ... has anyone had this problem and if so how do you fix it ... the car was setting for sometime i don't if this could something to do with it or not . thanks in advance for any help ..

Does the guage register the fuel or does it show still empty.
I suspect the sending unit is faulty. I beleve this is part of the fuel pump and is $$$$ to replace as the whole unit should be swapped out.

Sending unit is faulty - could be a bad ground. I would check the ground first, then replace the sender.
Kinda pricey if it is integral to the pump assembly in the tank (I dont recall 100% on an 89, my 85 and 90 were -- so reason says it prob is in the tank).
