2000 Lincoln LS8 problems...go figure!

Well basically since about 3 weeks after i bought the car, which was 12 months ago ive noticed that when the car shifts into final gear while driving in the city 45mph-ish if the RPMS are low, or it seems theres a load on the car, the car will start to shutte and shake. it almost doesnt want to accelerate until i lift my foot up off the gas slowly, almost as if i take the load off of the transmission. also when going WOT once the rpms reach higher levels 4000+ it also seems as if it starts misfireing. Also on the highway doing 70mph if i go to speed up to pass it will do it. theres no CEL at all. does it alot more often when the car is warmed up. ummm i use 93 octane gas (if it matters). I was told it could be a fuel delivery problem so i changed my fuel filter about 2000 miles ago. it seemed that this stopped the problem for about 3 days but it couldve been just a coincidence.

transmission?
tranny filter?
Coils?
Sensor?
change the fuel filter again?

IVe replaced plugs and it still continues, the car has 109,000 miles on it. Ive delt with it for 10,000 miles, its annoying but not enough to keep me from driving it, just keeps me from driving fast.

any ideas?

When I had my ls8 2001, mine did the same thing. it would not throw a code for anything. So what i did, I opened her up until it hesitated enough to throw the code. turned out to be a coil 2 times. after the 3rd and 4th one, i could tell when a coil was going out before it threw a code. maybe this is your problem, i am sure there are other possibilities.

mine was doing the same. finally took it on a 3 hour ride up to jacksonville and had the cruise set on 100 pretty much the whole way there and back. got back intown - 6 hours later - and it finally threw some codes and was stumbling on the idle. i guess i somehow managed to burn out whatever coil life there was left.... i'm putting money on the coils.

they arnt cheap. 40$-60$ a peice depending where you can find em. replacing all 8 is a bit pricey.

problem is diagnostics. having someone test them to find out which one it is that failing. then you have to pay them labor, plus parts. is there anyway to do this at home?
