dash lights

my .dash lights only come on when you first grab the handle but will not after that anyone have a ideal what went bad?

headlight will be on but no dash lights its a 88 lsc fully loaded with the auto lights and highbeams all the good stuff

The little photo light sensor on the dash? if it has one? My friends impala was like that, at night their were headlights but no dash lights. It was the sensor that told the car if it was day or night.

thanks never woulda thought of that i thought it would possibly be the dimmer switch
