ok, had this car for almost 3 years and have gotten used to its quirks, as i was able to attribute them to something "real" like bad switch, leaky vacuum hoses etc...but this is weird...

Recently changed a bad power master window switch, used a 95 conti switch..(i have a 96)it works fine... ok, but! my keypad code went out! noticed it when my remote didnt work, tried to reprogram it according to manual( I have the original code) but it doesnt work!!! the only thing that works is pressing the 1/2 button five times!!, and all the other codes work!
(3/4 all doors, 5/6 trunk etc). but I cant reprogram it...it wont take the original code and wont cycle thru for reprogramming using the five 1/2's.

what does the window switch have to do with the code???

thought maybe a fuse, but other things work using that fuse that the keypad uses, and like i said, keypad works but not with original code!

can anyone help me with this?? it doesnt make sense....to me

I believe the key code is stored in your master switch. So your going to need the original code from the car you got the switch out of.

thanks for the reply..wow, I would of never thought...but i did think it might be something to prevent chopping...is that the reason? or there is no reason?

Anyhow, I dont know the code of the car the part came from, i bought it off a parts place on ebay...but I do have the VIN# on the parts tag...could I find the code from that??

just to update, yeah you are right the code is in the switch, i noticed that the code was stickered on the original switch, and sure enough the code was stickered on the replaced switch, works fine now...
BTW before I discovered this I called the local ford/lincoln dealer service and they stated that the window switch has nothing to do with the code, it was in a module behind the dash, and that they MIGHT be able to pull it for $85.00. Guess they werent familiar with 95-97 Lincolns or they wanted $85.00.
Thanks
