I am a new owner of a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC. I have a problem though. I was driving (the day I bought it) and it started stuttering. It only lasted about 2 minutes then it quit. It did it about two times.
Today I drove it (2 days later) and it did the same thing, for about 10 miles. It also killed my A/C. Once again it went back to normal; however, the check engine light came on. I ran up to Advance Auto and had them check the codes. Said it was the ignition coil. He mentioned that it could have gotten moist due to the weather (it’s been raining for about 4 days here in Jacksonville, FL. I don't know why it would kill the A/C though? The A/C and everything works fine now, not sure of the problem. It has 81k miles on it and looks great. I will get some pics up as well. Let me know what you guys think?

Does it say ignition coil or misfire on a cylinder?... mines doing that right now... hopefully you're not gonna have to go through all the junk I'm goin through... it's not terrible just irritating... but if it's just a misfire it could be your boots... there's a little wire on your coil that has rubber around it and it could be going bad... that's what happened to mine... and it would studder a lot when I accelerated...
the crappy part is when I went to change my boots I found out my valve cover gasket was leaking to beat hell... so I have to change that too... but give Max at 5 star and he'll hook you up with what you need... good luck man!!

You do know dont you that a 97 has eight coils?? One for each cylinder. Before you go doing the hair pulling act, Take a few minutes and carefully clean the battery cable connections. If there is any corrrosion on them, that is enough to screw you up. These cars are extremely sensitive electrically. A corroded cable will raise all hell with the way it runs. When you finish that try a road test again. If it isnt better, try disconnecting one coil at a time while it is running to find the one that is dying or dead. One dead miss, and these things really run like poop.

get the code #from advance, P030_ (1-8) the last digit is the cyl # thats missing, then swap that plug and that coil with 2 other holes (keep track of what went where) and disconnect the batt, reconnect and drive when the light comes back on have the codes pulled and see what cyl is missing.
example, po301 (cly 1 miss) put the plug in cyl 2 and the coil in cyl 3, clear codes (by disconnecting batt) then po303=bad coil, get it? dont EVER listen to those idiots at advance/autozone/whatever, just use them to pull the codes, get the code # than run away, all they want to do is sell you parts

Alright, fixed and running great!
Code showed Ignition Coil D Circuit Malfunction. Just replaced the coil and cleaned out the condensation, boom, running like new!
