I recently bought a used SCT chip for my 1997 Mark VIII lsc, when I went to put it in today it was a no go. I got three messages on the message center:
Traction control err
Engine temp err
rear gear err (something like this)
also the anti theft light was flashing like crazy and the car turned over and wouldnt start.
I was under the impression that the only things you had to match up were the box codes, which do match. I understand that there are different programs but i was just wondering if I did something wrong or if I have a bad chip. When it was installed we followed the directions I found on the other mark site. just curious for input....really bummed out cause I really wanted it to work cause i wanted to see what it was like.

Did clean the contacts really well? This is really important!

What he said! If you just pug it in, you will have problems. Also do not do this with the battery connected.
Try a scotch-brite pad to clean the ECU contacts, carefully!

I assumed I didnt have to do that because the chip was used and it looked like they were clean but I will try that tomorrow and see if that works. Im open to other ideas too. Would it make a difference if his car was a normal mark anf mine was a lsc?

i think they are refering to the other pins, not on the chip, in the pcm

Well I cleaned the contacts and what do ya know the car started and ran good. I let it sit running for a bit then shut it off and we put the computer back in its holder. Then when I started it again the car was running funny, the rpms kept going up and down then I shut it off and started it fine so I took off or a drive and WOW! the new shifts are amazing and it felt really good, but when I went to slow down and turn around It was reving up and down then when I went to accelerate again it died. And died when I stopped in the driveway. The check traction contorl light came back on too. So I am wondering if it is a program issue or a connection issue? Secondly if maybe I need to pull the computer out some becasue maybe it is putting pressure on the chip and making it not read right because the problem did not start till the computer was put back in its spot.

my guess is you might need to clean the contacts some more, put the chip in and if possible tape it tightly.

Look! There is only one way to put a chip in, and that is to do the job right.
Half measures will net you NOTHING! Using a smaller piece of green Scotch Brite pad, thouroughly (sp) clean all of the ECM contacts. After you think they are clean, take a small piece of lint free cloth saturated in alcohol and clean them again. Before reinstalling the chip, make sure those connnectors are clean also. They probably have some gunk in them from when you put the chip onto a dirty board. Use alcohol again. Dont imerse the chip, but get it CLEAN. This should end your problems, if the chip is any good.

Well, it works now. All this time I thought it wasnt clean. Turns out it just needed to be shimmed cause when the tape was put on and putting the computer back up in the holder the chip was getting bumped out and not making a good connection. Thanks for all the help though
