Moonroof stripped

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

New project. Anyone know how to remove and repair the moonroof if motor gear is stripped in the closed position.

Is it stripped or did the bolts just fall out? Common issue especailly on Gen IIs.

Actually, I havent gotten into it yet. BEen workig on interior. But it sounds like gears running over each other like a bad door window motor.. Happens in either direction too, in either function tilt or slide. How do I start?

very carefully pull the access cover off and take a look see. My Dad's 85 the motor had gotten loose and was just catching the gear. Same for my 98 Mark VIII - bolts had fallen all the way out and the motor fell down. Got all out of alignment - PITA to get aligned again.

A lot of VII's do not have an access cover for the moonroof motor.

... and in these cases, then the vehicle owner has to ascertain the aftermarket manufacturer of the moonroof, and approach them for support.

Thanks for the feedback! My car has the access panel. OEM
