Have you installed a new battery since purchasing the car?

Cool.
Now, repair or replace the rest of the items in your charging system. The other method is to properly test each one (prolly the alternatior and regulator) until you located which is the bad unit.

If you have an aftermarket radio, disconnect it before trying to trouble shoot the car.
If you have an aftermarket alarm, disconnect it before trying to trouble shoot the car.
If you have an aftermarket ashtray, remove the blunts before trying to trouble shoot the car.
