My Lincoln Mark VIII 97

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just got my Lincoln officially today and it has a few little kinks to work out.

1. The passenger handle needs to be fixed. I'm guessing this is why the passenger door ajar warning comes up.

2. The interior lights aren't working. (Visor mirror lights, roof lights, dome light, glove box and storage box light) Probably a fuse haven't checked.

3. Check Engine Light is on. Does say it needs a oil change probably why.

4. And the last one the one I'm worried about most. When I idle it kinda sounds like the timing might be off and it gives a little knocking sound around where the front left hand side of the car.

I haven't changed any fluids haven't updated anything yet to get a better idea of where this thing sits, but I plan on doing that. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about it so far and how hard or how much its going to cost to run through all this stuff.

Oh yeah one last thing. Its a 97 Lincoln Mark VIII but for some reason I have a 96 Manuel is that normal?

5. Oh one last thing. For some reason my heat doesn't seem responsive. Just blows cold air.

1. Nope, the sensor is separate. Spray WD-40 in to the hinge latch on the door itself. If that does not work I can provide directions for removing and cleaning the sensor.

2. The interior lights aren't working. (Visor mirror lights, roof lights, dome light, glove box and storage box light) Probably a fuse haven't checked.
2. Yes, check fuses.

3. Check Engine Light is on. Does say it needs a oil change probably why.
3. The need for an oil change will not trigger the CE light, get the codes pulled.

4. And the last one the one I'm worried about most. When I idle it kinda sounds like the timing might be off and it gives a little knocking sound around where the front left hand side of the car.
4. Describe the sound... I dont see what it would have to do with timing though.

4. it kinda sounds like it was knocking its hard to explain it sounds like a pump. (pump, pump, pump) Is what it sounds like with like a half second delay on every pump.

? is that what its called I tried doing a search couldn't find it. http://www.car-part.com/

4. Its not a knock, more of a pump sound? Normally you hear injectors, but they tick.... I cant think what would cause a pumping sound other than the AIR pump, but I don't think it could even do that. Check out the high AMP fuses and try to disable the AIR emission system.

Checked every fuse it looked solid. Maybe a missing fuse?

Everything you've mentioned is typical fixes. The fuses would be the first to check. Do a search on all the threads by me and you will see all of the things I've done to my 97 when I first got it. Welcome to the ever changing world of Mark VIII ownership.
