3.73 gears question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i got a pumpkin laying here with a trac loc in it with some 3.73's in it, i want to know if i can throw it in without a tune, i do have the correct speedo gear for it, but i think the computer reads the output shaft speed NOT the vss, so if thats the case then i will need a tune or else my shift points will be crap. i know i know "get a tune bla bla bla", but thats a couple hundred i aint got

You will be fine it will just mow through the gears earlier, which will give you a little better mileage anyway, at full throttle it will make NO difference.

I had many dyno tunes since my rear gear change to 410's, keeping the stock 327 speedo gear, and it was fine NA. I did notice my Mark lowered at 55mph instead of 65mph using the stock 327 speedo gear.

I will say, since my supercharger install, I had to have the white 410 speedo gear installed in the Mark to resolve transmission shift issues. The ECU has a real hard time keeping up with the quicker WOT acceleration commanding the shifts due to the power increase of the SC. I had a delay after the actual shift, and it would kick down and shift again on occasion.

The conclusion my tuner and transmission builder came to, is I needed both the correct speedo gear, and transmission tuning to make everything perfect with the shift points, lowering, etc., on my 98 SC Mark.

cool so it looks like i got myself a loaded pumpkin with 3.73's in it wont that kick my speed limiter down? as long as its over a hundred thats ok, as i rarely ever see that (crappy IL roads )
as for cordova...........the markviii is at home today cuz i gotta move a air hockey table so unless i wanna run a stock 5.0 awd explorer fully loaded i wont be able to make it maybe next time (prob in 08)
