Why would your modem be the problem? Does your modem do the wireless?

The modem is about 5 years old, and it keeps cutting out with a wireless router. More often with the N series than the B. The problem isn't the wireless signal, it's that the internet completely cuts off, even from the WIRED desktop that runs through the router. I'm wired completely now from the modem right to the computer and I haven't had a problem yet.

up and start downloading and see if your modem turns off or not

How's it goin there fellas? Alright here's the rundown. I just bought a Belkin N1 wireless router, shown here with details http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=273526 , and just like before when I had my 802.11b wireless routers, my internet seems to cut out if it gets too overloaded. The system is supposed to support up to 16 computers, and so far I have a desktop wired, laptop wireless, and xbox 360 wireless. When I run all three of these at the same time, as in just connected, the internet cuts out and I have to reset the modem. Happens almost every time. Could this be a sign of a bad cable modem?

Just had a friend with the same issue. Had her go get the Linksys Wireless N for 100 and she has no issues what so ever.

I did, I had the laptop, desktop, and xbox live all hooked up. As soon as I did, the signal cut out less than a minute later even though the signal strength was 54mbps at my laptop.

yeah she brought a belkin wireless router thats what kept shooting down the signals the belkin wasnt strong enough to hold the wireless signal so it kept booting her PS3 , laptops and desktop. I took her to get the linksys wirless N for 100bucks and she has had no problems for a few days now and still going strong plus linksys is more user friendly.

maybe some ports on your router are not open thats why when you overload it, it stops working.

Did you try going to the Belkin site and downloading the latest firmware update for the router? Since the internet connection is stable when wired to one PC and the connection only drops when you run everything through the router, I would suspect the router as the problem.
