Look what @ 20 minutes can get ya (Gen I)

Like the caption says, I spent @ 20 minutes each side, and then gave them 2 VERY heavy coats of wax. Hope they will stay this way for a while.....tired of not seeing at night, and I even have 85W fog/driving lights behind the grille.

I used (basically because I have it handy) some rubbing compound, then I used a cleaner/glaze putty (again because I have it handy), then some hand glaze, and then several coats of a cleaner wax. Then I place 2 VERY heavy coats of wax on the lenses to get them as clean as I can. I used a heavy hand, and rubbed vigorously to get these results. I can finally sorta see at night now.......

Yeah, yeah, I know......I have a slight paint issue.....I am working on other things at this moment, so the paint is not a big deal to me.

i burnt the chrome off the inside of mine when i drove to cali. gotta split them open and figure out how to fix it.

i used lacquer then compound followed by wax be careful with the lacquer thow just gently wipe

I used Toothpaste on a set I sold on eBay... They were a set of my worst...

After I was done they looked pretty good... much much better than when I started.

I found a company here that will re-chrome the headlight housings if you can successfully remove the lenses. I will try on checking for a price this week. They do all kind of plastics, emblem and symbols.

In the oven at 350 degrees for ten minutes right? And they should just separate?

In theory they should seperate. In practice it's a crapshoot. Make sure to keep an eye on it, if they get too hot the plastic lens will oxidize or something and be completely ruined.

Here is what I have done about 10 times.......

Place the headlight assembly in the oven.

Ramp the temp up to 400 deg.

As soon as the temp reaches 400 deg remove the headlight assembly and pull them apart. DO NOT LEAVE them at 400 deg for any longer than 2-3 minutes or they will melt!!!!

I have had success with about 5 sets of headlight assemblies that I have pulled apart in this manner. Hope that helps.

Simple just put toothpaste on a cloth and rub... add a little water and rub. Cleaned them real fast.

Toothpaste has the same consistency as like wet sanding with 1500 grit, I have always used the wet sand method, just because I have allot sitting around, toothpaste works good too, just steal it from a roommate and don't tell them.

I wet sanded mine up through the grits, polished with Mirror Glaze #44, then a final polish with PlastiX

The divided lens still bugs me, though. Someone please hook me up with some 95.5-96 LSC housings!!!!
